I spent this past weekend in Palm Springs with a female companion and her sister. While the companion has been relatively unobjectionable, her sister is a little princess and pretty much complained the whole time.

We took a ride up the Palm Springs aerial tramway… a nearly vertical cable lift ride from the desert floor at 2000ft to the summit of a mountain at 9000ft. As you might expect, there was a dramatic temperature drop of about 40 degrees.

While the females are getting hot chocolate and stamping about to stave off the cold, I read the plaque that explains how the tramway came to be built. Apparently there was this young engineer who was driving through the valley with a friend some 50 years ago. The friend had remarked about the excessive heat (Palm Springs can get up to 120 in the summer) and the engineer said “It sure would be nice if we could get up to the top of that mountain where it’s nice and cool.”

Now most people would have just kept driving and complaining about the heat, but this man decided to do something about it. He spent e next 30 years working at designs, raising political support and collecting capital to get this thing built. Then something like hundreds of men put in tens of thousands of hours designing the system, building the base terminal and flying metal parts and cables up the mountain in helicopters to erect the towers and run the suspension.

And now that it’s there and open to the public, the only thing that these two females could talk about was how cold it was.

So the next time I hear a female or mangina complaining about something I’ll say “You know, if it weren’t for a man and his will to actually DO something, none of this s~~~ would even be here. Now, what are YOU gonna do?”

Love Palm Springs. There several times a year. I know the tram and have taken visitors up there 3 or 4 times. It’s the only spot in America (the 48) where there are 5 life zones within a square mile. Breathtaking. 3 times I went with female(s) and not one of them marveled about it. I looked for it. It’s f~~~ing AMAZING that men built that s~~~. It wasn’t even necessary! They did it just to conquer it. When we got back to the car… it wasn’t “thanks OMG that was amazing”… or “could you imagine what it must have been like to build that?”….

    No. It was “I’m hungry”.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Exactly. They didn’t care about the motor room, the counterweight, how the towers were built, how all the people and supplies have to be carried up there every single day… even the water… in those two carriages, about any of the wildlife, the environment, anything. All they said was “I’m cold, what’s for dinner?”

Trust me, sweetheart, men did not design and build the modern world just so you could have a warm and comfortable place to complain.
