I have been tempted to start this thread for sometime, well its now a new year and the timing feels right.

Lately I’ve been very tempted to start a long term classic car restoration project to keep myself busy on weekends and the odd couple of hours or so here and there though the week. Here’s what I have been thinking so far, must be a two door coupe, must have a v8 engine, must have it done inside of a year and must ultimately be a head turner once finished. Initial thoughts on the type of car have been, 60’s era mustang, 70’s era Benz SL or 70’s era Aston Martin (Expensive!! Okay, that one probably wont happen short of a trip to England in search of a real bargain).

Another option I have been toying with is I could try my hand at building one of those kit cars, AC Cobra replica, Ford GT40 replica etc.

Some background, I’m not new to this although it has been a while. Back in my early to mid twenties I did a fair bit of car restoration / modification. Former projects from my youth – 70’s Mini Cooper – Mark 1 Golf GTi – 70’s HQ Holden Monaro sedan (Oz version of Chev / GM).

But as these things go when you are young, man meets woman, man falls in love with woman, man abandons the hobbies he loves for said woman and sex.

It’s time to take back some of the things I gave up for sex all those years ago.

Are any fellow mgtow’s into car restoration? If so please share you experiences, advise to others and of course favorite cars here.

Never really got into it, mainly focused on the more practical aspects of owning a vehicle, fixing everything myself, since it is cheaper and a good skill. I can see how car restoration would be an extension of this. For a car, practicality, though, cars today are much better. They last longer, are more reliable, safer in an accident, ect.

I really don’t have a favorite car, they are an appliance to me, like a washing machine. Long as it runs, is reliable, and gets good gas mileage, I’m good.
