I wont bore you with my all time go-to’s:

The Godfather, Casino, Good Fellas, because most men love them and theyve been talked about ad infinitum; though I wont mind discussing them if you guys are game.

I want to talk about less popular films that dont acquire critical approval, and some I never got around to seeing. Theres a certain dossier of films during a partial decade I never got around to view.

    Mad Dog & Glory

This film was dark. I always expect this from a Bill Murray film. He possesses this disengaged quality in his eyes and demaonour, which has the understated demonstrable effect of:

“I dont take any of this seriously. Im well aware the world, and everything in it is f~~~ed. Heres a four word sentence that will eviscerate you; and by the way – that was effortless”.

The film was dark, but as all “dark” things go, that is precisely what made it meaningful. It touched on the tragedy of the human condition, which rings true to experience.

Three individuals, none of which are happy or in control of their lives. Murray, the most in control, is a gangster surrounded by sychophant yes men; but hes not happy because deep down he knows this. They unwillingly laugh at his burgeoning stand up routine. But he knows hes not funny.

Deniro, an unhappy cop who feels like a pussy. He cant fight his own fights. Desires the girl thrown in his lap, but finds no pleasure because he knows she doesnt want him and is only there because she fears for her life at the hands of Murray, her boss.

Uma Thermon, completely has no control over her life and is forced into the situation. Another unwilling participant in the game known as “life”.

    In Bruges

This was SUCH an under rated dark comedy. Maybe Ill write more about this later if anyone wants to discuss. F~~~ing fantastic! Directors cut interviewed the writer and he discussed how he came up with the story; he visited Bruges and one side of him loved it while the other hated it. From there he wrote a plot of two hit men, one young and one old, were sent there by their boss.

The process he discusses was so fascinating to me because I love writing, habe begun writing stories and wonderrd how successful authors develop them.

    Resident cynic.

Mad Dog & Glory. Loved that movie. I heard once (rumor?) that in preproduction, Murray and Deniro wanted to swap roles because they had done the role of gangster or the what ever you would call Deniro’s role.

I enjoyed The Watchmen. The character of Rorschach was the linchpin for the entire movie. Men and women with extraordinary abilities and he is the only one that has not compromised his principles. This was a lonely character. The lone anti heroes from movies such as High Planes Drifter, but with the ability to articulate. The efforts that he makes to take down bad guys isn’t rooted in protecting society so as it is in destroying evil. He is a megalomaniac, with elevated sense of self that would have not purpose if every criminal got locked up tomorrow. If not for one minor bit of humility, when he had the courage to apologize to his friend, Rorschach would be almost ill redeemable as a person. This character illustrates that being standing by your principles with no compromise will often leave you alone.

Rorschach’s journal, October 12th 1985. Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city’s afraid of me. I’ve seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood. And when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up around their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout “Save us!”… and I’ll whisper “No.” Now the whole world stands on the brink staring down into bloody hell. All those liberals, and intellectuals, and smooth-talkers; and all of a sudden no one can think of anything to say. Beneath me, this awful city, it screams like an abattoir full of retarded children. And the night reeks of fornication and bad consciences.

"I asked you a question. I didn't ask you to repeat what the voices in you head are telling you" ~ Me. ........Yes I'm still angry.

I have Clint Eastwood’s cowboy flicks sitting on my DVD shelf. After Clint, next up is the HBO series “Rome.”

I have many films I liked, but I think the ones that I have watched most (besides the Godfather trilogy) is Dune and Children of Dune. I have a weakness for really good fantasy and sci-fi and Frank Herbert really knew how to blend them to a perfect mix.

Most modern films are PC nonsense with magina’s pretending to be tough guys. “Shooter” from 2007 though stands out as it is an old fashioned style revenge film, fast paced and very masculine.

I mostly watch older films, love Film Noir from the 40’s and 50’s everything seems so classy and the women are proper women lol. Grungy cop films from the 60’s and 70’s are awesome as well.

John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson all those old tough guys do so much better than the new ones. Even Yul Bruynner is more masculine than the maginas they have now days!

    The Fountain

Is one of my favorites mainly because I love the music that was used in it.

I also the the metaphysical aspect of the story line of essentially reincarnation over and over but meeting the same person, and eventually reaching a realm where these lives are remembered, the meaning of death/ life, its a extremely artistic movie and is very spiritual for a lack of words to describe.

This is a movie for people who are in this kind of stuff, so if your not….dont even try, haha. It will float past your head and leave you confused.

Life of Pi was a good movie, I enjoyed the visual stimulation and story line of the boy surviving.
I like all survival movies that have to do with wilderness, and connecting with the Earth the way our ancestors did.

I watch a lot of documentaries for the main part though, I find them just as interesting.

O, almost forgot. I watched Hidalgo and LOVED that movie. I was surprised I never really seen previews or anything for it. Story line is adventurous and invokes that warrior spirit.
