Chaos theory is a branch of mathematics and it is focused on the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. ‘Chaos’ is an interdisciplinary theory stating that within the apparent randomness of chaotic complex systems, there are underlying patterns, constant feedback loops, repetition, self-similarity, fractals, self-organization, and reliance on programming at the initial point known as sensitive dependence on initial conditions. The butterfly effect describes how a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state, e.g. a butterfly flapping its wings in China can cause a hurricane in Texas.[1]

The 2 piece pendulum thing in the video is cool. So the pendulum doesn’t take the same path twice because, even tiny changes in the way it was released can have a big effect on its course? Interesting, food for thought thanx

Great comments Thanks! you got it, the pendulum is a very simple contraption that gives a good insight into the complexity of chaos. I too enjoyed that short video which introduces us into that world.

Chaos is undeniable. I see him in the insurance commercials. Mayhem

I got interested in chaos theory after reading “Jurassic Park” and being intrigued by the Malcolm character.

From what I recall, Chaos theory is builds on top of how quantum mechanics works.

The idea however, is then put into principal to how quantum computers will function.

I’m still not sold on the idea of how the chips work per say, since I can barely understand the basic gate function of transistors.
