Several months ago I posted about changing careers to become a barber. Well I finished my training not long ago and have landed a good job with a good company, so it has all been worth it.

I’m not making much money right now but let me tell you of the changes to my work environment.

No weemins – male environment (and all the associated benefits of that)
    Wear what I want
Have fun at work (play pool, shoot the s~~~)
Work for myself / my clients
    Meet interesting people
    Have many positive interactions daily
Zero stress / depression / anxiety
Answer to no one (basically my own boss)

I now feel free to embrace my own character, something I could never do in the office, where I had to actively hide it. Being your own character actually helps in a trade such as this, as clients get a lot from this besides just the haircut. It is great.

I couldn’t be much happier than I am now. In time I’ll build a client base and get busier, earning more money. The pay is cash – 😉 And if I manage to become great at what I do, I’ll most certainly open my own shop. A good red pilled barber shop (hiding in plain sight, of course).

I gave up the money and regular pay check for fulfilment. It’s not been an easy transition, learning a new trade from scratch, but it’s probably the most worthwhile thing I’ve ever done. And I’m 33 – not that young for such a change. But I’m finding my age and life experience is helping with my client care, I’m also finding in our conversations a LOT of men to have MGTOW / red pill tendencies. My confidence in cutting is building, as is my confidence in general, as is my ‘people’ skills.

I’m also meeting interesting people and getting opportunities because of this. I mean other work, business opportunities, as well as ideas on how to further improve my life. More opportunities and ideas than I had in six years in the office.

Pray tell, how many women did you speak to and think wow, that experience or insight is really gonna help me, or I’m gonna have a go at that myself…? They really have nothing to offer intellectually, experientially.

Men are the smart ones, the interesting and insightful ones. Weemins are just boring.

Just thought I’d share. If you’re ever in Manchester UK hit me up for a trim – mates’ rates 🙂

Good for you mate. It’s always good reading stories like yours. I’ve occasionally wondered about learning the trade too, as my barber seems a chilled bloke, has his own shop etc. It’s looks quite a good way to earn money. What d’ya reckon? I’m 39. Did it not take you 3 years though? My ex girlfriend was a hairdresser, and she did 3 years at college. What’s it like standing literally all day? Did the training cost a lot? Where did you do the training? I might have a little wonder in your shop one day if you’re gonna do mates rates lol.

    Thanks for your words gents.

It pretty much doesn’t feel like work, at least at this point (this may change in time). I get to hang with guys I like, play pool, drink coffee, and practise a craft which usually leaves the customer feeling pretty happy.

It took me 3 months to train, full-time (mon-fri). This was doing it with a well-known UK barber school, the training is expensive (about £5k in all) but intense, and the Educators are seriously talented. There really was no other way for me – spending a few years doing it very slowly for a pittance isn’t an option for most 33 year olds.

Like any decision I’d weigh it up carefully. Can you afford it? Like is often in self-employment, the first year you won’t earn much. But I’m looking at the long game. I got to the point where I didn’t need much to live on (like 500 bucks a month), this meant I didn’t get into debt while training and am doing fine now even though earnings are pretty low.

We had a couple of late 30s guys and a guy in his 50s at the academy. They did great.

The barbers that have built a client base are pulling in between £400 and £600 a week cash. £2k a month cash is not shabby when you’re doing a job you like. You get used to standing, the body adapts and it’s far better for your health and fitness than sitting in an office chair.

It’s also a job which allows for flexibility. The experienced barbers have chosen which days they work. Some only work 3 days a week as they’re earning enough. Not bad huh. It’s a real lifestyle change. I’ve gone from angry/stressed/miserable to peaceful and happy within a few months.

Be great if you did it!

I’m glad you found an occupation that suits you, MGTaoist. Sounds like you got all the benefits of not working with weemins.
I wish you all the success you seek in your new employment. I hope you’ll be able to open your own barber shop soon and if I ever go by Manchester UK I’ll take you up on that invitation.

It is great to find someone who really dove deep into himself. And it is way more nice to find someone who understood and found his way, after doing so.
    Congrats, mate!

If I happen to lando on Manchester, I will definitely find where you work and get a nice shave!

Most of the times, we are told to go to a 9-to-5 job, to be at the office, because that is where you are paid and yadda yadda. Most of them seem to forget that men were made to work under and inside nature, not offices. Offices are fow women, who need shelter from the elements.
Men are generally happier when we work with our hands, and/or within a natural environment.

I think we are hardwired to that, to find fullfilness among woods, forests and other natural places. I personally embrace this, as I am preparing to drop my office job to a place near nature, where I can work in peace and silence.
You, my friend, seems to have found your “forest”.

I wish you all the best in the world, and much success in your barber journey!

    Thank you fellas.

    Congrats, mate!

I chose to find fulfilment in life over accepting mediocrity. Maybe I won’t find it, but at least I’ll have tried. For me that’s living. It’s all part of me living life on my terms, discarding anyone and anything that hinders that.
