It was only until about recently that I found out that women of any age pay 50% less than there male counterpart. Which is quite odd considering how bad female drivers usually are. That’s such bulls~~~ and it honestly makes me want to drive without insurance altogether. I recently got a speeding ticket for 49 km/h over although it would’ve been 29 if it wasn’t a construction zone.

Now, I have no car, it’s harder for me to get places, etc. If I was a woman it wouldn’t have been such a big deal but because I’m a young male in his 20’s I get crucified. I admit I do have a bit of a lead foot but it’s still such bulls~~~. I can’t wait until I move into my new place where owning a car will be optional due to transit.

Is driving without insurance cheaper than paying for it if your under 25?

Just bike to work and home. That’s what I intend to do. Use UBER, lyft, public transport, or a taxi for the occasional need and you’ll still come out ahead financially.

No paying for a car, no registration fees, no car insurance costs, etc.

    Plus it is healthier.

Net effect of driving a car at 65mph for 1 hour: you die 20 minutes sooner
Net effect of riding a bike at 12mph for 1 hour: living 2 hrs and 36 minutes longer.

Funny thing is I’ve never gotten into 1 single accident. Not really “bad driving”.

I live in a rural area, a car is, sadly pretty much mandatory. Especially during the colder months.

A country where women can’t drive would be preferable.

Which is quite odd considering how bad female drivers usually are.

And don’t forget that they can usually get out of speeding tickets by flirting with the police officer.

Often times people talk about a ‘gender gap’ with auto insurance. In the case of auto insurance, men drive more. And have higher fatality rates. So ‘gender rating’ insurance there, makes sense, and is fair, in my opinion. I’ll probably get a lot of flack for that one.

But I ask, let’s look at Health Insurance. In the case of medical insurance, women should pay more for individual policies. Why? Because pregnancy, especially high risk pregnancy and post-partum care cost big bucks. But also, due to women’s higher rates of chronic illnesses than men, and due to women seeing doctors more frequently. All of that adds cost.

So, what happened under Obamacare (a.k.a. Affordable Care Act)? Well, it made gender rating *illegal*. So what that means is, men subsidize care for women. If that is good policy, why should not, then women subsidize male auto insurance with an Act of Congress making THAT gender discrimination or ‘gender rating’ also illegal?

Of course, that isn’t even a topic for mainstream discussion.

The answer, of course, is that gender rating should be legal in BOTH cases because there are justifications for it. In the case of men, they often drive more and further to work — more miles = more accidents. But men also have more fatalities per 100K miles driven, for a variety of reasons including the miles being driven at high speed on highways, fatigue, alcohol impairment, etc.

This happened in the 1990s in the UK – insurance companies did a study which showed that women have lower crash incidents, so they offered lower insurance premiums for women only.

Just recently, maybe last year or so, it was ruled sexist, and insurance companies were forced to equal the premiums again. But rather than lowering men’s premiums, they upped women’s. Cue outraged feminists.

Driving habits of women I’ve observed:

    – drive too fast in parking lots

-tailgate and drive aggressively in general

    – speed up when approaching red lights and stop sings, slam on brakes, and then floor the gas pedal when ok to proceed…my mechanic confirmed women go through brake pads and tires like crazy

    – drive distracted…cell phones, kids, applying makeup, etc.

    – confused at 4-way stops…can’t understand who has the right of way

    – yield signs confuse them and do things backwards…stop when not needed and drive right through when there is traffic they are merging with

    TL;DR:C~~~s are dumb and can’t drive worth a s~~~

Yes, I don’t know how the study was conducted, or what it measured. And as FrankOne mentioned, men drive more, and further.

What IS known is that women are generally bad at spacial awareness, and particularly at front/rear distance/speed estimation. Essentially, they can’t work out how far away something is, or how fast it is approaching. Men on the other hand mostly have very good spacial awareness, but do not have such good peripheral vision, and won’t necessarily see something coming sideways. I think there is some research showing that men have more side-impacts, and women more head on and reverse crashes.

This makes sense of ChuckWow’s observations that women drive too fast in parking lots, tailgate, slam on brakes, etc. – all forward/rear speed estimation problems.

    Just googled this:

I remember reading a study back in early 90’s in regards to male/female accident numbers. What I took from it was number of high speed/fatality accidents was much higher in males due to 1/excessive speed..2/alcohol../3falling asleep at the wheel.
For women, the number of low speed/non injury accidents was much much higher such as parking lot bangs, mirror and side scrapes while parking, low speed impacts with barriers and garage doors etc. They also stated that the female number could even be much higher due to non reporting due to under 500 dollar damage limits etc etc.
