I guess it all boils down to experience. If you have had too much to deal with, I think even money might not be able to swing you to the other side.

Things like “Money’s not the only good thing in the world; I’d rather be happy than be rich”.

But for some guys who haven’t seen the darkest side of women, they might try it out. Of course, women over-taking men in terms of financial powers is nearly impossible; but I still have some urge to speculate how it’d be like.

I think if she’s rich and she decides ‘she deserves better’, she would never have to go to the court. She could just kick you out.

And unlike a helpless wife kicked out by a husband, the courts and ‘charities’, ‘hellplines’, ‘organizations’ won’t help you.

Why the hell woud she go to the court? If she’s really very angry at you, she’d just pay a hitman (sorry Mr. Hitman not ypu; you’re not getting paid)to get rid of you or shove a knife herself into your heart. No, I don’t think I could do that. Society may change, but biology doesn’t. Men are naturally more inclined to be providers and protectors. Women are naturally more inclined to be provided for.

I enjoy things much better when I’ve earned them…I just don’t want things handed to me. I had a father-in-law who made a ton of money, and loathed the idea of ever having to ask him for money. I have dated women who are more financially well off then me, and I disliked feeling like a child who needs to be taken care of. I felt like a boy toy.

On the other side, even if a woman makes her own money, her need to be protected doesn’t go away. Even if she can afford her own engagement ring, she will still want your 3-months salary ring. She could decide she wants to quit her job to be the kids and just live off your salary. A male bread winner would never do that.

And outsiders recognize that something isn’t exactly right either. Others tend not to respect a man who lives off of a woman’s salary as much. We also tend not to respect women who are rich and powerful.

Then there is the issue of joint decisions. Men will naturally include women in financial decisions even if they don’t contribute financially…partially to avoid her scorn. Would a woman do the same? Doubtful. She’ll buy the house she wants even if you don’t like it. She’ll buy the car she wants you to have.

As others have mentioned, it won’t change the condition of the legal environment when it comes to kids.

So really, given today’s laws around divorce and marital finances, a woman who makes a very similar income seems the best option to me. She shouldn’t be expecting as much money from you, and you should approx. get all your money back upon divorce. Other then that, the laws need to change, so that divorce is never a financial windfall, and a spouse does not automatically have access to his/her partner’s money.

And I’m not saying that fixes everything. It’s only 1 piece of the possible. Her behavior and how kids are handled are still issues. That said, changing the rules on money will help out in those areas.

Agree with Old Sage completely, although I think much of that also implies if her family is wealthy. My ex’s father was a bankruptcy lawyer, so I experienced some of this.

Like any contract or negotiation it depends on how much money is being offered for what is being exchanged.

I can’t foresee a set of circumstances that would make an offer large enough to be worth my while to consider. If she is rich and loaded, she can get a younger and better looking male for cheaper than me. If someone is offering to overpay too much for something, I would consider that a red flag for fraud.

Since such an offer is almost certain to never happen in my case, it is almost moot.

No I don’t mean to say “swing your orientation”…. but there is a phenomenon over here where the ‘poor (financially) assholes’ often turn to these measures (marry a rich girl and get rich with her money). There are s~~~loads of comedy movies made on that and that topic only. The way they make it seem like its a piece of cake; involving a lot of ‘romance, feelings’ and all that female-stuff (I derive the idea from the saying that goes on in the forum that women decide with their feelings and hearts rather than their brains) along with ‘deception’ and ‘NFGs’. Though at last they end up with breaking up then the asshole realizing what kind of an asshole he had been all that time and that he had really loved the girl instead of her money; then drama drama drama and they reunite to live happily ever after.

Of course I’m not a fool to believe in the movies but there are people I have seen personally who literally live off their wives’ money. And they don’t care about any sorts of shame thrown their way. They are what we Indians say ‘cheapos’ or ‘cheap people’; people who are satisfied if they get freeloads or even a small return of whatever work they put in. They follow the “something is better than nothing” <- even if it means sacrificing your self-image as a ‘boy toy’.

I don’t see trustworthy or non-promiscuity on your list. If that’s all you’re interested in you can get that by the hour.
