I was born in California, and I love this state for several reasons: it’s geography (mountains, beaches, etc.), the variety of entertainment, and the legacy of people having a carefree, independent attitude. To me, it’s a state where people go to leave traditions behind, create their own identities/lifestyles, and pursue creative projects. It has an odd mix of immigrants from all parts of the world who are trying to create better lives for themselves.

The main problem I’ve had with this state is the COST OF LIVING. I grew up in Los Angeles and that city is designed to take money from people. I had to leave Los Angeles to find work in a smaller city—the job competition is outrageous. I visited my parents (in Los Angeles) a few weeks ago and I parked my car on a residential street. The next day I found a parking ticket on my windshield for $73. I was p~~~ed! Yes, I know it was my fault for not paying attention to the street signs. My car was preventing the damn street sweeper from cleaning the entire street. If I parked my car on the other side of the street, I could’ve avoided the ticket. In my city, the street sweeper just goes around your car. No penalty!

Most major cities (Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego) have apartments you can rent from $1000 to $2000 a month. You can get good deals on rent if you live in a small city in the desert or Central Valley. Many of the houses in major cities cost between $300,000 to $1,000,000. Just imagine paying $300,000 to live in a small house in gang-infested neighborhood. No thank you. I can’t even afford to live in the cheap neighborhood I grew up in during the 1970s. The real estate prices are so high in some areas that many residents will spend most of their lives renting. Someone making $50,000 a year in a major California city would have nearly the same standard of living as someone who makes $30,000 a year in less-populated American cities.

Taxes and fees: California taxes your income, your house, the gas you put in your car ($3 a gallon is the current price), the cigarettes you’re addicted to (triple tax!), your phone bill, your fast food, your bottled water, etc. They have a “fast pass” that you can use to get in the fast lane of some freeways while everyone else is stuck in a traffic jam. It costs about $100 for the DMV to print out a sheet of paper and a sticker so my car can be registered. And every other year: I have to pay for a smog check and submit that paperwork to the DMV…or else I won’t have the right to drive on public roads. Many national parks and popular beaches charge entrance/parking fees from $10 to $20.

Government spending: the state officials are in love with their employees and illegal aliens. These two groups seem to get the most attention and favors. Celebrities also get special treatment—and there are a lot of celebrities here who constantly get into trouble…yet avoid prison. Everyone else: you’re on your own! City and state employees are promised generous pensions in spite of budget problems…and you know what that means: more taxes for the rest of us! Illegal aliens get free food and healthcare. And if they can’t pay a hospital bill, that’s okay, the costs will be forwarded to you—if you’re a sucker who has a job and pays for health insurance. The children of illegal aliens are allowed to fill up the public schools and billions of dollars must be spent on those facilities. We have an incomplete high speed rail system that we can’t afford to pay for. We have road construction projects that can’t be paid for. We can’t afford to buy our own water-dropping helicopters for wildfires (the government RENTS them). And our water reserviors dry up during the hot seasons. These are serious infrastructure problems that are ignored because money is spent on generous employee pension programs, and a K-12 education program that FAILS to prepare kids for the workforce or college.

Dumb politicians ignore the trash on the streets in urban areas, the graffiti, and the scores of homeless people living along freeways and rivers. They would rather smile at the news cameras during some art festival rather than solve social problems. Here’s an example: instead of making streets WIDER so more cars can flow through, they will make bike lanes to encourage people to ride bikes. Are you kidding me?! They don’t ride bikes to work, so why should we? Then we have idiots like the Oakland mayor, Libby Schaaf, who warned illegal aliens of an upcoming ICE raid. I’m sick of sanctuary cities! Why look out for those who can’t vote? For every 100 illegal aliens who come here to work, there’s probably one who came here to commit a crime. Innocent people are victimized enough by the deeds of American criminals. Why import more problems from other countries?

Speaking of crime: California has over 100,000 prisoners. It costs over 10 BILLION dollars to incarcerate and “rehabilitate” these morons, and also pay for the prison staff. More money is spent on medical/dental care than food and clothing. These are the people who are stealing cars and vandalizing property. You may spend hundreds of dollars to get a crown from your dentist, but the inmate will get one for free. It costs less money to pay for a bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley or UCLA than to put someone in prison for 2 years. Imagine that.

Corporations are leaving California because of high taxes and strict regulations. They would rather move to states where it is easier to set up a business, and build an office building without waiting months for some government agency to approve the design. Many Californians—who are already struggling to survive—will get laid off by the employers who escape from this bureaucratic madhouse. Some will get government benefits (unemployment checks, food stamps), some will find other jobs, some will steal, some will end up in a tent city, and others will pack up and leave.

The politicians don’t realize that many who leave this state are the ones who provided them with the TAX REVENUE to keep their pet projects, pensions, and social programs operational. They aren’t going to get that kind of money from unemployed residents and illegal aliens. And most homeowners are not going to vote for a property tax increase when they are already paying too much for food, utilities, transportation, health care, etc. If they made it easier for people to become self-sufficient, there would be less spending on social programs for the needy—and lower income taxes!

What are you bitching about? If a street sweeper went down my street it wouldn’t stop picking up dirt until it hit the underside of some paved road in China! Oh but get this, this criminal town demands taxes to run their street sweeper down their roads!

Everything is a fraud, just stop participating and take care of yourself!

California’s exodus has been happening for decades. I think that for every white or black family that leaves, three Mexican families move in. I’ve watched companies leave, listened to people blame NAFTA, and then find out these companies went to places like North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. NAFTA my ass! Community College used to be free for residents. Not anymore. Now California wants to be a sanctuary state and ignore federal law. Then I say they should be denied federal money. Why should my tax dollars go to support a rogue state? I know it’s your home state and it’s very dear to you. I lived in San Diego for 20 years before I said f~~~ it and left. So, I’ve seen it from the inside from the perspective of a working guy who just can’t see the logic behind paying a million dollars for a house that’s “cute”. If California is so upset with being part of the U.S. these days I think the other 49 states should pass a resolution to throw California out of the Union. Let them be a sovereign republic. They brag about being a republic all the time. Then, they can have all the sanctuary cities they please.

When I was a teenager, we moved there, but left after 2 1/2 years.

As young as I was, I noticed a huge difference in behavior in the LA county area. A lot of kids were simply vulgar and disgusting; filthy burning mouths that probably would have melted soap if you had tried to wash their mouths.

Crimes were often bizarre and hideous: example, the incidents of rape and stuff like someone shooting a pet dog with a bow & arrow. When we left there around 1983, I was left with the impression of a place that was becoming a 3rd world garbage dump.

I can only imagine how bad it is now, 35 years later.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. Many of your complaints are not unique to California, unfortunately. And I actually like some of the things you’re complaining about…in theory at least. The execution of it is often where the mess lies.

    Ok. Then do it.

I’m in CA now and definitely planning my exit. I want to move to a state like Texas where I can buy any gun that I want, carry regular capacity, concealed carry and buy some property by myself for a reasonable price that hopefully has space so that I can have my own shooting range. Plus, all this damn protesting and crying just makes me sick

Why should my tax dollars go to support a rogue state?

The thing is: we all support each other when it comes to federal taxes. And Californians provide a lot of federal tax revenue, so I don’t agree with the president’s proposal to deny federal grants for us. Doing so would harm people who aren’t part of the problem. Besides that, I want the USA to have a thriving economy—and I think California is a vital part of that (technology, agriculture, entertainment). If it became an independent state, I’d only see some benefits for a few years because my federal taxes would be eliminated. But the unlimited sanctuary cities would lower the standard of living for everyone except for the very rich. When thousands upon thousands of unemployed people flood a city, crime is sure to follow.

What the ICE officials should do is: conduct secret, surprise raids on businesses that hire illegal aliens. That way these sanctuary city mayors won’t have time to react. Anyone who interferes with these raids should be handcuffed by the FBI, as far as I’m concerned.

Homeless people all over the state: San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, etc.
