Actions have consequences and consequences have prices. Cause and effect at work.

Massachusetts had a similar bill to restrict OBD (on board diagnostics) to car dealers only, making it almost impossible for the average Joe from reading his check engine light.
The more something is regulated the more it costs the consumer, the less there is to go around, until only the elites can afford it.

I have never invested much money buy cellphones and using cellphone plans. I read somewhere more cellphones are regularly hacked than personal computers.

Now the electronic companies have been caught accepting bribes to leave backdoors in electronics, cellphone companies do not want to patch those backdoors, and it is revealed those backdoors are known by thousands of groups.

This is a recipe for a lot of problems.

I would not be surprised if a group released a cellphone virus that bricks all the cellphones. We will know the organization whom is guilty by the fact their cellphones will still work.

It’s hard to find an unlocked phone unless you order it online, and in Canada, you have to pay almost twice the price for something like that. Well the Moto phones are alright. I believe the moto g4 play has a removable battery as well as a sd card slot. Its not much, but it does make it easy to manage your phone. Updating on a apple phone is just asking for problems funny enough. Everytime I walk into a computer store that offers to repair or replace parts. I would see a broken apple phone screen or a screwed up battery. Sometimes even a dead logic board. But I don’t see too many android phones with these issues, but that’s just my point of view.

As for laptops, Only gaming/business laptops are really your best case situation If you want to replace parts on the go. Consumer stuff, not so much. For desktops it’s a no brainer.

I guess companies are really trying to make things last as long as the warranty is valid.

There was also a similar situation with Lenovo with the swordfish incident. This adware was only installed on their consumer products, but not their business lineup.
