On the surface, yes, but I imagine she considers herself the exception to the rule. In her mind, the black people that have achieved by overcoming the odds and working harder then their white privileged peers. She would argue that the fact she and others have succeeded in life doesn’t change the view that blacks generally have it harder than whites and theory need to be subsided to equality.

It’s not really a debatable point because ‘working harder’ is purely subjective. How can you measure hard work? There are just to many variables. You have to factor in the assistance of others in our lives, such parents, community we live in, plus government intervention. They you have to factor in our own capabilities. For example, some would argue that a particular physical task represents hard work for a woman while it is not for a man, because the woman has to put in more effort to achieve the same results.

Applying some of this thinking to my own life, I have to conclude that my life overall has been rather easy. That’s partly due to assistance from others around me, partly due to my own capabilities, and partly due to the choices I’ve made. I’ve made many wise chose and many really bad ones. At the same time, I recognize that many others have a better life then me despite bad choices, due to the assistance the received and their capabilities. The same is true in the other direction, many have much worse lives than me.

The end result is that life isn’t fair. I don’t wish to spend all my time complain about how I was wronged, or feel guilty that I achieved while others did not through no fault of their own. That’s not to say, that attempts to give others assistance and educating on good decisions isn’t worthwile, because it is. I just don’t think all my time should be spent on that.

Besides that, I don’t fully know that a life full of assistance, high capabilities, and wise decisions necessarily means a better life. There are many people in the world who have little and made many bad choices that still seem to be happy and satisfied with their life.

Ok. Then do it.

I think being right wing is a disability. If I ever own up to my inner drives and instincts I receive a lot of prejudice and discrimination. If I were a queer I would be praised for following my instincts. If I were a woman mitigation to my disabilities would have bene legislated for. As it is I am in a hard place and really I need some government assistance because I am right wing and I can’t help it.
