Black Mirror – Nosedive

Checked out a few episodes of Black Mirror Series 3 on Netflix at the weekend and noted the female narcissism portrayed in the episode ‘Nosedive’. The episode portrays a society where social media ‘likes’ and popularity on a scale of 0 to 5 determine everything from your job to where you can live. The female lead embarks on a mission to get a popularity average of 4.5. Her brother takes the p~~~ out of her and highlights her shallowness, but she continues on her digital quest regardless –

It’s pretty obvious why this lead was female, as I don’t think a male lead would have been as believable – especially as females are far more likely to post attention-seeking selfies of Fakebook, T~~~ter, Snatchchat, and the like. If you have Netflix check it out.

While written as a work of fiction, it’s scary how much life is starting to imitate art with the rise of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The mind boggles how many vapid, narcissistic, superficial women will fill society as the digitally-weaned Millennials will be classed as ‘adults’ in just two years time;
