Thanks Joey, I appreciate the thought. I take some solace in the fact I’m Swabian and we did produce a Rommel and von Staffenberg, but then of course we also produced a Hoess and Erich Hartmann. (No I’m not trying to take away from Hartmann’s success but he was an unabashed nazi)
Merkel was born in Hamburg, but grew up and studied in GDR. Which means she was allowed to study in a communist society. If this indicates to be a commie, everyone has to decide for himself.
The German national anthem is solely the third Verse of the “Deutschlandlied” which is as old as democracy in Germany (late 18th century).
The first two Verses are prohibited and it is pretty likely you’ll be fined or even go to jail for publically singing these. The German constitution of today was largely influenced by the Truman administration.
As I do believe in open discussion, we need to stay on facts.
"Him, who delights in solitude, is either a wild beast or a GOD!" - Aristotle (Aristot. Pol. 1.1253a) 1 Hom. Il. 9.63; the passage goes on: ἐστὶν ἐκεῖνος ι ὃς πολέμου ἔραται.
