AUG 1 UPDATE

Hello and good morning.

We have just performed a complex update to all member roles. Everyone SHOULD be able to log in now.

Everything went perfectly, except there are a couple of differences as a result of outdated Jquery (script library). As an example, we tried to apply the new menus, but the user avatar (upper right) didn’t want to display. This is temporary of course… so it’s hidden for now. Your display name is visible.

• The “splash” screen over the forums pages didn’t work either, so that’s removed. (no big deal)

• As well, new private messaging is implemented, but the older scripts are causing it not to work. We need to urgently fix this — but I was expecting this might happen. I know what’s wrong so it’s not a “WTF??”

• If a member is a “Participant” posting is ON.
If a member is a “member”(new join role) posting is OFF.

“Participant” overrides “member”… so if you’re a “participant” and can’t post yet for some reason, don’t panic , it’s not personal. Ghost and Galt members should be able to post with no problem.

• The broadcast notices in the bottom right were working , but when the site came back online, I couldn’t CLOSE them or make them go away. Also a result of outdated scripts. All solved in the new version of the site , so that’s not a problem.

^^ s~~~ like this is what we are dealing with right now.
Basically updated the guts, but the existing pages need to be updated now.

• “Account/Settings” page is the biggest bug we found. Again, it’s not really a problem because it’s tested off site already. So we just have to bring the new account page into this site and everything will be fine. There’s a notice on that page in case anyone want’s to change their password…. just wait for it. I’m pressuring to bring this in first.

We have pulled down a “snapshot” of the site and user roles as it is right now.
We are now going to apply the new website to it (off site) and fix the account page first… then private messaging and all the other stuff above.

I will update this thread daily until all fixes are in.

PS… I just noticed “Carnage” logged in. He is a “member” and a “participant”.

I tested an admin override and logged in AS HIM, and noticed he can NOT reply to a topic. I am aware of this and it’s not right. This is what I was afraid of with regards to “permissions”…. So I’m going to try and fix it for him.

So everything is working great and we just have to make a bunch of tweaks tomorrow to get permissions right.

@carnage … if you see this message, you may have been booted (logged off the site) while I tested you. If that happened, I’m very sorry about that. I am no longer logged in as you. I just needed to make sure you (and members who are “participants”) could post.

Lemme be clear about todays update……

Today, we’re PREPARING to push a new site. This site was built over time – big sections like a new “wing” on a house. It wasn’t all built at once. I wished we could do it that way, but it was not possible to forsee the tremendous success of it. So we did it in big blocks. We didn’t even plan to have forums in the beginning.

The “new mgtow.com” is the WHOLE site done over again from the ground up.

But first, – today – we needed to upgrade the member stuff.
Thats everything to do with the database & member roles.
( it’s very unnerving with 33,000 members )

But it went great! It only took a couple of hours tonight because we already tried it off site.

Before today’s update, I was s~~~ting my pants thinking about what could go wrong.

The next thing is to “hook” the new site and features into the NEW member roles and database. We have to make sure everyone has the correct permissions. When all we need to care about is changing “the look” of it, that’s when the fun begins, because we won’t have to do this massive kind of construction job ever again.

The new site is going to be so much better & faster on mobile too. But it’s not going to be crazy different. It’s still the same site… just MUCH better. You’ll see. Don’t talk it up too much. It will speak for itself.

As an experiment (and before retiring for the night) I thought I would try something…..

I checked to see if anyone unsuccessfully logged in – in the last hour. There were a few , but we also have bots and s~~~ trying to log in.

Just IN CASE anyone still has trouble, I decided to revert one of our main (related to login) files back to the March 2018 version…. in case it was somehow “damaged” or corrupted in recent month(s). I don’t know if it will make a difference, but it was worth a try. I will check it again in the morning.

I would like to hear from someone who previously had problems logging in – who doesn’t anymore.

I worked with iMickey on this and HAVE NOT been able to find any example where logging in failed. While he was on the phone, I personally sent him a test password, and he was in – no problem.

I also deliberately tried to log in unsuccessfully (3 times) by entering a wrong password. I was temp blocked, and the logs SHOW that I was blocked. When I entered the correct password, it worked.

It’s gotta be bulls~~~!

Tomorrow I will create 3 new users at different member levels. I will reset password and go through all the steps as if any other member. Will post findings. Thank you for your comment.

Have just emailed two members who have tried to log in since our latest update. One of them is user JVB. He should be along any minute…..

I just sent him a new password we regenerated for him.
If it works, then I’m gonna start ripping my hair out. And I like my hair.

Are these members able to go to /password-reset/ and reset it themselves.

???

Like I said, I will go through every step of this tomorrow at 3 different member levels. We will solve this.
