    So where I am at every year theres an event called rendezvous days, fun stuff, reenactors from the 1750s-1890s, food, displays, shops. Anyway awesome guy there portrays a 1750s era french marine officer, anyway he had artillery pieces he had made by a blacksmith. A mortar, coehorn style, and the other was a small “marine” type that could be mounted to a small boat or had a special wheeled mount that could be used on land, he even taught me the french drill for use. Anyway any other fans of artillery here? http://steencannons.com/cannons

    There’s an old saying in the artillery: It’s not the size of the gun, but the skill of the gunner.

    Those cannons tickle my pickle.
    Always dreamt of firing off a cannon. Those things are just gorgeous. Remember the rush of firing off my first slug round and just thought “It needs to be bigger!” After that day I basically put the rifles down(didn’t sell them!) and have been a shotgun guy ever since.
    One day I will own a range and people will be able to come and put some SERIOUS lead down range. Might even get some dragonbreath type rounds to fire out cannons.

    Thanks for the link!

    My avatar is actually Tsar Nicholas II ( I consider him along with Wilhelm II and Charles I to be tragic, wrongfully maligned figures) plus he is a Saint in the Orthodox Confession (I am Orthodox)

    I like modern artillery.
    I was a 13F in the Army and I’ve also “fired” a howitzer before.

    modern artillery.

    I just find modern artillery to be so cold, ugly, and without personality, old school stuff (pre WW2) is my personal favorite. The gun in this vid would be a dream piece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXPYCcCkKj8

    Modern artillery is even more absolutely devastating as it was with the old, historic cannons that were used far from the battlefield, but incredibly decisive in determining the outcome of battle.

    Artillery history is highly revered among the officers and senior enlisted.

    Field Artillery is referred to as the “combat multiplier”;
    but Field Artillery is still, and will always be “The King of Battle”.

    For the record, I now consider myself a pacifist and reject nearly every reason my government has given to drag young men, NOT WOMEN, off to fight in far away wars, in which we have no business taking part.
