This guy is suffering from his own vanity. He’s showing off a nice car when he can’t afford it. Plus, he’s got $10,000 of credit card debt:

Solution: have some humility and face reality. He should admit that he’s broke and adjust his lifestyle accordingly. He can drive a $2000 hooptee for a couple of years or ride the bus (Los Angeles has buses that run 24/7). Then he can get a nice job, save some money, pay off his debt, and have some positive cash flow in his bank account for a change.
"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)
My parents always refused to live within their means. I’ll never be able to understand it. My car cost $2500. Sure it’s not the prettiest thing on earth, but it gets me to work and back, and I have no complaints. I’m also not in debt.
Women are better at multitasking? Fucking up several things at once is not multitasking.

The TRUTH right here! Debt kills.
On a lighter note: What is the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? A porcupine keeps its pricks on the outside. Bada bing… I’ll be here all week.
The current Blue Book value of my daily-driver is about $900. If a UFO stole it in the night, I’d go get another $900 truck. My “fun” car (an old, but well-maintained V8 coupe) is great to drive, but I worry about people dinging me in parking lots, idiot mothers letting their kids touch it, etc. My old truck? No worries.

People care so much about what other people think that they will get themselves massively in debt to impress people they don’t even like who probably don’t even care. Personally I get a much warmer feeling from having a big “F~~~ you” fund in the bank and driving a 10 year old car, than having a brand new BMW depreciating faster than I can pay the monthly payments.
I know a gay couple who are all about image and material things. they rent their apartment and have just “bought” (i.e got credit on) a brand new BMW that cost the same as one of their annual salaries. One of them cracked the screen on his iPhone, so rather than get it fixed he just went and bought a new iPhone 7 plus. They still have loans from years ago for cars they no longer even own and have just got a new credit card they are rapidly using up.
They constantly moan about not being able to afford to buy a property and when one of them suggested saving every penny for a couple of years as a deposit the other one said “I’m not living like a pauper for two years”.
I lived like a pauper for 3 years after my divorce and completed on my house 2 weeks ago. I laugh when I think my mortgage payment is less than their monthly car payment.
For women, everything eventually boils down to Alpha Fucks, Beta Bucks.

So true man…I have an aunt that used to bust my ass about how long I kept my last car for. I bought it used, paid cash for it, and drove it for 11 years. I’d still have it if it didn’t get to a point where it needed more time/money put into it than it was worth.
The aunt that made fun of me for it…she’s bought(on credit of course) a brand new SUV like every 5 years for as long as I could remember. Her and my uncle are in their 60s now, still have car payments and a mortgage that I’m pretty sure is upside down because they refinanced multiple times before the housing market crash, and literally don’t have a dime saved for retirement because they both changed jobs several times over the years and cashed out their 401k each time they switched jobs.
I’ve got lots of examples like this…but, what I notice time and time again are the people who I would least want to take financial advice from are the ones who seem to be most willing to criticize people who are smart with there money like we’re supposed to go into debt to buy things we don’t want just to prove we aren’t cheap or something. I just hope the car I have now last for at least 8 more years so I can have the pleasure of being made fun of for driving a car for 10 years again:)
My car is so s~~~ty I leave the keys in the ignition and don’t lock it
It’s actually my ex-wife’s car )), because my car got forfeited when I got busted for DUI. Instead of getting a different car, putting whiskey plates on it, paying insurance through the nose and getting a breathalizer interlock, I borrowed my ex wife’s spare car
I pay her $40 for insurance
My insurance would had been $160 for liability only because of DUI 2.5 years ago.
As soon as three years pass, my insurance will drop to nothing again. It will be in August. I’ll be finally getting out of this s~~~ and getting myself my own ride again. I’ll be paying cash though, since I don’t want to be forced to pay full coverage for a financed car.proud carrier of the 'why?' chromosome
LOL. I still have my 2005 Cadillac Escalade and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. I’m thinking about buying a second car, but only when I can get a 2008 Escalade for less than $8,000. It’ll probably be at least 3 more years. But I’m still not getting rid of the 2005.
I only drive 5k to 7k miles per year because I work from home. When I go out, I want to drive in comfort. I couldn’t care less what other people think about my car.
Financial freedom is WAY more important to me than having all the latest and greatest stuff. I got my 2005 Escalade for a steal of a deal and I won’t buy another car unless I can get it for a steal of a deal again.
EDIT: And I ALWAYS pay CASH for my cars. I will NEVER finance anything else as long as I live. I might as well take a big bundle of cash and flush it down the toilet.
Growing up my parents had the worst car in town (only had one car). They never spent a cent on clothes and the only decent toys I had were what other family members purchased for me (aunts and uncles).
I still remember at school an older student asking a group of us for money for the phone and in front of everyone he said “I won’t ask you, your family are poor!”. Funniest thing is parents were paying off 5 houses (now with no mortgage). They are all paid off because they never wasted their money on new cars etc!
I look back on it though and I think there’s a balance. I think you need to sacrifice early then spend the passive income bit later on in life on the things that you want (holidays, nice car etc).
My dad never did the spending later in life (now passed) so I think whats the point if you can’t enjoy it at some stage! My dad never did the spending later in life (now passed) so I think whats the point if you can’t enjoy it at some stage!
That sounds sad, but don’t feel bad about it because when you think about it, it’s just stuff. So long as you have what REALLY matters (friends, family, peace, and your health) and you’re HAPPY, that’s all that counts.
I could die tomorrow and feel perfectly content, NOT because of all the s~~~ I’ve collected over the years, but because I have peace and good health. I don’t have much in the way of friends or family (my family sucks), but I’ve learned to accept that I’ll never really have that in this life. To me, that’s a LOT sadder than having a bunch of money and never spending it on useless stuff.
I made a rule after I bailed myself out of 7 years of credit debt; don’t spend what you can’t pay off straight up and that includes cars and houses. I rather save my money over time and buy a house in 1 payment (no long-term mortgage and interest). Since I live rent free with my dad and on supplemental income from the government (I have a situation), I don’t spend unless I have to.

My car cost $2500.
I’d rather have a reliable, cheap car—that’s totally paid for—instead of being $20,000 in debt and showing off my brand new car.
I’ll show off my brand new car after I make money from investments. I would love to be in a situation where the dividends from stocks and the rent from real estate is enough to pay my bills and live my life without getting a job.
That’s my version of the good life!"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent.
