I get to what Arnold is saying here, but the question is how do I make what he’s saying work? He talks about goals, which I have, but I failed miserably at. I want to start an at-home online business fixing and building desktop PCs and when I tried it out 3 years ago, I lost over $700 and 13 months to sell it — not worth it. How do I make that goal work; that is the question? I might have to invest in computer parts from Alibaba.

Another goal I have is I want to lose 80 pounds, but the problem I have is I have the fitness version of writer’s block, where I want to lift weights, but I never get into the mood or motivation.

Well, sometimes goals arent specific enough.

Some computer fix guys, for example, specialize in only working on certain computers and building a reputation for being the best. Like some of the mac repair guys not affiliated with apple do. They are good, know how to do repairs and troubleshooting, and charge less than apple would.

Also making people aware of you and advertising is crucial, otherwise no one knows you are even an option. Thats a small business killer, everyone knows the big boys and their presence is in multiple places. You may need someone just to do front end pr and office stuff so you can focus on the pc stuff. One person cannot do everything well. Almost imposible and thats why your first attempt didnt make it.

As for the health goal stuff, if you aren’t doing it, it truly isnt a priority for you. You havent mentally made it a priority.

I think you need to be dynamic. Where I reside, there are dozens of ‘u break we fix’ stores. Learn to fix phones by getting a job at one of these stores. Gain skills. First fix someone’s PC, then install network switchgear, voice over IP phones, etc once you’ve built a relationship. People want fast, cheap, battery and screen replacement for their smartphones and tablets.

Personally, I don’t think there is a lot to be made building computers as an individual. I can order up a custom built Dell, or buy used or custom on eBay cheap. Part of the problem is, OEM’s get a discount on Windows, and you don’t. They get volume discounts on parts. You don’t. That’s just my opinion.

May also want to consider cash hustles; mowing lawns, landscaping, etc.

For fitness, set a SCHEDULE. Every other day. Top priority, above watching TV, internet, etc. Until it’s done, no other discretionary/free time outside work is spent on anything else.

Boy you guys really know how to discourage a man’s dream. What about selling computer parts on eBay? I saw NVIDIA graphic cards on Alibaba sometimes going higher on eBay, but I don’t know how to order of Alibaba. I prefer PayPal.

Going to be blunt here, anything PC buy sell repair is about 5 years to late.
Hell of a lot of other things you can get into that would be an great home business. For a few years my brother bought sold repaired old clocks, did ok until he got tired of doing it.
Hit the local garage sales. What I did when I lived in Florida, bought all the old looking fishing gear and sold it on line.
OR you can take from Arnold’s talk and learn a craft 45min to an hour a day,…

The piece you’re missing is that you have to learn to hustle. If you’re the most skilled computer builder in the world, you’ll be the only one who knows that fact until you get the word out. And once you do, people will line up to get you to work for free. Getting them to pay you for your skills is the hardest part, no matter whether you’re building computers or DJing or whatever. Everyone will want to hustle YOU. If you don’t also learn to hustle, you’ll end up losing $700 over and over again.

If you like website design, maybe volunteer to do some work for a non-profit group’s web site, to get some references and referrals. Have you taken any Lynda.com courses free through your local library on full stack web development? Learning scripting languages and SQL thoroughly will make your services valuable.

Learning to write apps for Android or iOS? Even better if computers are your passion.

I am not trying to discourage you. But time is money. And I think you can make more money as a full stack web developer than selling custom built PC’s on eBay.

The problem with business is that people are retards. They want quick and cheap, and self-indulgement.

These women come up with these shlt products and make millions in a few months, because they understand our self-indulgement culture. Or maybe they don’t understand it, they’re just part of it.

Fixing computers… that’s too logical. People just buy a new one. The con men make money because they know how to plug into people’s hot buttons and get them excited.

As men, we are thinking of worldly things… making the world a better place, etc… Bush got elected because he promised everyone a tax refund of $300 dollars. Obama got re-elected because he gave people an Obama-phone. People make their babies autistic because the local store offers a ten dollar vaccination. This is what we are dealing with in the world today.

Sell the people self-indulgence, and you will earn money. I don’t know what though.

People also buy for their children. Sell “educational” stuff to their children, and they’ll buy it. Like a summer trip to Rome, or something like that. Gets the kids out of the house, and is a “great educational experience”. Check. Check.

When you achieve that result, your goal might become: “I want to go 3x a week for a month”. And then, once you are happily doing that, you are challenging yourself to exercise longer, lift more, eat better— whatever. You are seeing results and forming habits.

As for the computer company. Maybe you want to start small? Do individual jobs from Craigslist or whatever. Work in a repair shop and learn what their client base looks like. Walk-ins? Companies? Online orders? How well do you know the business? Do you plan to make a living from it?

Start small and grow. Good luck!!

I think the answer is that you tried it and it didn’t work out, and you haven’t been able to make it work.

Sometimes, we have to change the goals that are in our head to match more with our present reality. In other words, FIND A NEW GOAL.

You have to JOIN A GYM AND GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.

Wake up EARLY and get your ass straight to the gym every morning and DO SOMETHING.

DON’T OVER DO IT, but anything you do is 100 times more than you’ll do sleeping in bed.

Ya wanna Goal, make getting your ass out of bed EARLY EVERY MORNING AND GO DO SOMETHING IN THE GYM.
