Does anyone know of a place in the Chicago area that I can learn about repairing and restoring gaming machines like arcades and pinball? I like fixing and building desktop PCs, but as I learned a few years ago, there’s no money to be made in that. I want to get paid to fix arcade and pinball machines, if it’s anything like fixing computers.
My local library has online courses on how to learn about basic electronics, PC repair, SEO, Dreamweaver and HTML and how to start and run an online home business sort of stuff.
Trouble with employers is they want experience and schooling, and when it comes to this kind of work, I have none.
Here is a guy who repairs a Ninja Turtle pinball game (I like to get one):

I think its an awesome idea, but just realize its also a niche market with a corresponding niche demand. Not a lot of people will pay you for your work. What this is is both tech and art, there’s an art to restoration of any kind, but people don’t like paying for that in today’s throwaway and replace world.
If its what you really desire, start getting into it and see if you can turn it into a moneymaker. It may be a supplemental thing for you for awhile, or for a long time.
Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.
Does anyone remember a old pinball machine called WHITE KNIGHT . Every time you lost a ball it would say white knight wins and s~~~ . It would p~~~ me off playing that today .
Years ago a mate of mine had a real old playboy pinball . He use to fix it himself . Must be some know how in the newer ones .

That p~~~es me off with employers these days . Same problem here with our young people . Not given a go . I trained a young guy with a mental disability once and f v c k he was a good worker . Everyone has something they are good at and its just finding it .
IF YOU ENJOY SOMETHING IT IS THE FIRST STEP . LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP .
You can do it res .
Hey a buisness slogan . Ya f v c king with the best when dealing with res . Might want to put that on your buisness cards
THE PLANTATION HAS NOW TURNED INTO THE KILLING FIELDS . WOMAN ARE NOW ROLLING CAMBODIAN STYLE .

I know a guy that does this. He told me that he makes enough to live off of. While it is a niche market, those in this hobby have money to spend and they are not afraid to spend money.
There is some evidence of this considering Walmart sells arcade games with 1/2 game boxes (compared to the size of classic arcade game boxes).
I would argue it being a niche market. I know several people who have them. More in the line of supply is limited so that limits demand.

I REMEMBER THAT!!!
Resident Evil, I think you found it. Those videos look good. Also, study Electrical Engineering and digital logic on Khan Academy. It’s all free.
Would think there are some places near Chicago. There was a place near Akron, Oh that used to do that kind of work, and would think those kinds of shops would want to share some knowledge or take you on as an intern… good luck, chase it down!
Would love an indiana Jones machine, used to play one seriously years ago

The videos may look good, but the guy in them made it look tough and frustrating and that’s not a good thing for me, because I lose my temper when things go bad.

Build your wallet and empty it all, because the Indiana Jones Trilogy pinball goes for between $7K-$9K on Pinside. Ridiculous for a game that old.

Electrical Engineering is tough, however, those video do explain it well, and you can watch the videos over and over and over. You can watch the same ten minute video 500 times, until you get it. Also, it involves a lot of calculus, so you may want to take the calculus videos first, and maybe the algebra videos before that.
I realize that’s a big endeavor, so may not be much of a help, but honestly, I don’t know what’s involved in fixing video games. I know that babysitters from foreign countries without a high school diploma are earning $20 an hour, so everything is pretty much up-side-down in our gynocentric world.

Lastly, Go to any Chuck E cheese or place around Chicago that has these machines and see who services them. They usually have a number there on the machine and a name. If you can’t score a job at any of the places that have arcades, then simply ask to help out. Again, just show up to places and ask to help out.
is people getting older bro, they probably want to play some old pinball games and probably live sometimes of their youth. You know what I think of you really great right now because if you can go and manufacture some of these machines in a very inexpensive form factor you may be able to go and sell them off to some of these old folks homes or care facilities..

Lastly? Learn to build! Use what software we put out there for you to learn with. Imagine using a simple Raspberry pie to make these boards.

Yes. I had looked before, and realize it wont be as much fun in my living room as it was at the bar where me and my buddies threw darts and played all night until the machine about fell over.
