Well, I do enjoy the landwhale fights over the crap that is on sale. Like NASCAR, I only watch for the crashes…

I’m fine with black Friday, but I can’t stand crowds and crowd behavior. These days though, it’s much easier to buy online and have it shipped. If it can’t be bought online, it’s not worth the discount. The one exception may be Home Depot, but I seriously doubt it.

And yes, retailers are getting rather smart about what they put on sale. It’s often not that much of a sale, or it’s last year’s inventory they want to get rid of, or it’s a cheap Chinese version of what you really want. From one of seen, the stuff that I’m actually interested in is usually a manufacturer’s sale price, meaning it’s going to be at the same sale price no matter which store you buy it from.

Not really a BF issue, but I find the hardest problem with gift giving these days, particularly for my older kids, is the standard safe gifts aren’t a good option anymore. Things like movies, music, and video games are all digital these days, meaning a gift card is better than picking up a hard copy. On the other hand, anything else of value is priced out of the range for gifting. Which means that you end up getting them mostly gag-like gifts, or overspend. It was so much easier in the good old days.

    Ok. Then do it.

I’ve noticed how ridiculous many people behave during all holidays anymore. Thanksgiving and Christmas are no longer celebrated like they were once meant to be a very long time ago. The holidays have long since become about nothing but money. Spending loads of money on loads of s~~~ is how these stupid people celebrate holidays. I try to buy a whole lot of groceries and household items before this time of year so I can avoid going into town at all.

I can’t stand how people say they have to save some money so they can “buy their kids Christmas”. Christmas isn’t something you buy. It comes and goes without spending any money at all. I tell even my family members not to get me anything for Christmas and not to expect anything from me. If I want to get someone a gift, I have all year to do it. Why wait until this time of year?

“Black Friday”…….. Who the hell would want to go out to the stores with all those idiotic people scrambling to waste a lot of money on a lot of s~~~ they don’t need. As has been said in several of the above posts, they’re not saving any money and in fact spending much more than if they would just buy stuff when they need it or want it any other time of the year.

Think I’ll go have some drinks and get a nice steak after work this evening. No need to wait until black Friday.

The evil in women’s hearts leaves them no moral bounds as to inhibit them from descending to the lowest levels of darkness to acquire their self entitled desires.

Black Friday has been ridiculous for years now.

Most of the “deals” are not deals, the ones that are real are maybe so few to a store that it is more bait and switch than a real deal.

Insanely high traffic on some of the roads, chaos and even violence at times.

    F~~~ THAT !

I will spend it like I do most of the time: Watch some classic movies over some good food and drink as I enjoy the long holiday weekend. If at all possible, I try not to go further than a small store near my home.

Besides, there are far better deals to be had after the New Year.

Pfft, no kidding. I’m 26 and for the first 10 years of my life, my mother insisted on giving me gifts for holidays/birthdays/whatever. I just asked for cash. It was so much easier. Thankfully after my 10th birthday I convinced her that I didn’t want to celebrate holidays anymore. Holidays are a waste of time/money. The only beneficiaries of holidays are the corporations anyway, and I can think of about a million better ways to spend my money than making some already rich asshole even richer.

I refuse to leave my domicile on Black Fridays. I live in the middle of a 2×3 mile densely packed shopping district, and the traffic is dangerous insane.

It’s for lemmings. Sick, decadent, zombie-like consumer lemmings.

Black Friday CAN BE a good time to buy tools, assuming you know what you’re buying, what normal pricing is, and actually need it.

EXAMPLE: Battery drills, sawzalls, drivers, lights, etc often go on sale with two batteries, and charger included for same price as just the batteries.

Clamps for woodworking are often 50% off, just don’t buy the cheapest models.

Sometimes H Depot, Lowes, and Menards have welders for decent prices around the holidays

    YMMV

Yeah I think Alexei has it here. If it is useful, if you already decided that you want it and if you know its normal value, then when you see it discounted on line on Black Friday then OK buy it and be glad. (This is male shopping -the hunter goes out looking for the prey)

Go out shopping on impulse on Black Friday looking for bargains you might find and you are likely to end up being the product that is being exploited. (This is female shopping and it is very easy to exploit the female gathering instinct and the female temporary lack of reason when presented with desire).

A woman is like fire -fun to play with, can warm you through and cook your food, needs constant feeding, can burn you and consume all you own

    Sounds absolutely perfect.

I’ll be staying away from the stores on Blk Friday ..

.. probably watching Star Wars Trilogy at home on VHS tape on my twenty year old Sony VCR and popcorn .. enjoying every grainy picture minute of it. Why do I live like this when I could be out spending on the latest Blu-ray?

Call me old fashioned .. I am just as happy sitting by my wood stove in my workshop watching Han and Greedo where Han shoots first?? .. controversial scene which is btw only available on the old original tape version .. as far as I know. Ah, a few coins saved in my pocket and Star Wars bliss .. what could be better way not to spend. I might actually be evolving into a frugal luddite.

    I only shop online.

Black Friday have one purpose for me: buy my survival stuff and some books. Other than that, waste of money.

Don't look back, you're not going that way.

Stayed home, had some leftover deer stew, drank a bottle of wine while listening to orchestral works from my music library.

Those suckers can go out and fight it out all they want. Life is so much better when No F~~~s Given.

I agree, Thanksgiving is a time to be with family not shop. If you want to shop, do it some other day. But the problem is that Capitalist America prioritizes shopping over being with family, just goes to show just how hungry America is for money.

Marriage and Divorce for a man is like getting a cactus shoved up your ass. It’s painful with all the spines that go in and it is painful getting all the spines out, meanwhile Wifey gets most of the money, your home, your kids, and practically everything you own.
