There are 2 languages i am looking to learn (simply put i know American English right now) and those are Spanish and Portuguese for 2 reasons.
One is my Spanish origin and the second one is simply that i know the symbols unlike other languages (like i cannot even read Russian but i can read Spanish and understand it a bit just not at a speaking level).
Any tips or resources will be useful in this.

I used with success “transparent language ” to learn Russian as my third language. Here’s the web address Link

Any online or cheap languge book will get you started.
What you need to invest in is a Good English/Spanish Dictionary. And I mean a Big ass heavy dictionary.
Take it as far as you can on your own then enroll in a night class. You need person to person practice on pronounciation.
I see languges as like cracking a code. Once you cracked the basic grammar it all becomes clear.
I also found that most conversations generally use a quite small amount of common words that you need to learn. You then mix n’ match using Tenses and grammar to make your point.
Good luck

Here’s my two cents. My primary language is english. I’ve gotten to the point where I can move to any spanish speaking country, communicate and live daily life.
My woman is from a primarily spanish speaking country. So I can communicate with a partner to work on my grammar and sentence structure.
An easy transition is to start with a phonetic latin language. German, Spanish, French, etc. Then watch programs in english with the chosen languages subtitles.
After you memorize a few of the programs. Watch the programs with the chosen languages audio. With english subtitles.
I got to second year spanish with just the movie Rocky switching back and forth. It took like four months.

Anonymous12Try watching foreign films without the subtitles, try and get a feel for the sounds and what is happening, the tone of voices and expressions etc
You learned your primary language just by listening to people and having them talk to you. For some reason we all think a second language is more mysterious and impossible.
Spanish and Portuguese are similar, once you are fluent in Spanish you can read Portuguese and understand a lot so start with one.
There are many tips but nothing beats you moving to the country and living among native speakers, you can be fluent in a year this way.
I speak 4 languages and i keep vocabulary of less used languages by having computer software installed in that language.

I learnt German and highly recommend. Pricey, yes, but it is total immersion and definitely worth the coin.
Anonymous42Google translate is a good place to go when you’re looking for the right word. But it doesn’t help with Spanish grammar, the whole Masculino feminmeno thing needs to be understood before you can get anywhere person to person.
Spanish is a good choice, like english it’s established throughout the world and owns the entire continent of South America!
Wise choice, Yam, popularity and necessity was the reason I choose Spanish!

You could try something like flashcards.
Both online or print out or write your own and keep them in your wallet.

Anonymous38The main thing is you just get started and find the method that works best for you. I’ve been advised all sorts but they weren’t always effective for me. It does depend on your character and how you best learn. But me learning basic conversational Russian was a combination of textbooks, speaking and listening from different sources.
Also the Michel Thomas programs is good.
After learning the basics well try to spend a couple months in a country of the target language, this is crucial.
Anonymous1Check out the Langfocus channel, you might like it.
Only tip I can give you is don’t expect quick results when learning a new language. Language acquisition is parallel to mathematics which requires constant practice, memorization, and experience. It takes years to fully learn and master a language so unless you’re going to be devoted don’t bother just because you feel like it otherwise it will be time wasted.
I suggest you go on Amazon and pick out the best grammar books based on your needs and what reviewers had to say as they usually show the strengths and weaknesses of said material. Youtube has a lot of content you can pick up on and start watching movies/tv shows of Spanish to get a feel and rhythm of how it’s spoken and expressed. I also advise befriending people online and try conversing with them in their native tongue.
Don’t want to burst your bubble but learning a language is as close to climbing a ladder as it can get. There’s no short cuts or easy routes.

Except Brazil which does not speak Spanish.
