Anonymous12It seems that I have a small tear in my arm muscle, forearm area from doing weights. I am waiting to see the Doctor so in the mean time I am really curious if anyone has ever torn a muscle and how long it takes to heal and if you could still do weights after it had healed?
If it matters, I tore it from doing weights which were probably a little too heavy as I was in macho man mode and I was also doing far too many reps for the weight I was doing.
I inadvertently tore my left tricep very badly about two months ago. I was working to hard on the racecar and applied about 200+ lbs. of force with my outstretched arm. Applying such force tore my triceps where it joins at the shoulder.
I’ve actually never done anything like that before, it really surprised me. It “froze” my left arm at the shoulder. I couldn’t move the arm from the shoulder at all.
I wound up applying a Naturopathic type of “Ben Gay” cream to the muscle – which even when resting was hard as a rock from the inflammation of the tear – and alternated a hot pad with ice packs on the area for two days.
In two days I had my arm back, and I’ve never hurt it worse in my life.
I specifically did not go to an M.D. (Murdering Doctor) for the problem. Been there, done that. All they do is give you muscle relaxants and pain pills. The muscle relaxants slow you down and make you vegetative and “plantlike”, and the pain pills only mask the pain. None of that cures anything.
YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)…

It’s really depends on what you tore and the severity of it. I tore my Hamstring playing a drinking game trying to impress a girl. It healed in to certain extent in about 3-4 months. After that I had a steady ache in my leg that didn’t seem to want to heal. At 6 months after the injury I went to a doctor and asked for Physiotherapy to see if it would help. Had four appointments over 4 weeks and did all the exercises I was told to do everyday. It was some of the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. Doesn’t bother me at all anymore.
Yes I have. Tore everything in my left ankle & lower leg once (which is worse than a break in the long run). The hamstring is the worst, and takes the longest to heal. MONTHS.
If you REALLY “tore” a bicep (like I tore my hamstring) you’ll feel it for 3 months.
Probably 6 before you don’t notice anymore. If you can curl a copy of coffee to your mouth (or a spoon) right now, you’ll be fine and back at the gym in no time.
