I tend to use free VPNSs a lot when going onto forums and s~~~ (mainly just out of habit) because of all the information adware websites collect and I don’t want to be tracked extensively like that.

I’d use Tor, but I haven’t figured out how to get it installed on Linux yet.

I was wondering if VPNs are good to use or not as far as protecting your identity.

i use a free vpn but i heard there is a better way if you mess with the dns. vpn will slow your bandwidth or something, especially the free ones. They use your terminal for something or other too. i’m not a tech guy so i’m sorry i can’t give more details.

I bathe in the tears of single moms.

I would get off the free VPN’s, you really don’t know the motive for their existence. Could be run by a Romanian gangster and harvesting your data for instance. Stick to well known, paid services.

TOR isn’t much better, like the free VPN’s, it is abused to death by spammers, the report of rogue nodes distributing malware is also pretty disturbing.

Changing the DNS won’t stop someone from analyzing your traffic and it won’t mask your location either.

The terminal thing would only be an issue if you spent all of your time on Linux inside of the framebuffer console. I could see how it could get annoying really fast.

FREE VPN’s are garbage IMO, if you serious and use internet a lot and traffic often. For what it costs, the difference is huge. I pay a yearly sub for like 40USD and get a server anywhere in the world I choose, fast speeds, good support, not logging, and no stupids ads. I tried to do a free one but its so annoying first finding one and secondly the reliability isn’t there. I do a lot of gaming and work online so I cant mess around with that stuff. Sometimes the server is not always best because it adds a lot of extra latency no matter where you go but for MMO it is usually fine.
