Was thinking about getting away, visiting Crater Lake peeks my interest. Has anyone gone there? How close can you camp to the lake? I understand you can’t be water side or anything but just wondering. I know there’s a motel there but I’d rather camp. I found a couple places you can tent but not sure how far they are, and then i found you can get a wilderness pass or something so does that let you plop down wherever you want?

Anyways just hoping someone’s been there and can give me some personal experience knowledge.

Yes, it’s a beautiful place. I stayed Crater Lake Lodge but did not camp, so I can’t answer your questions except to say it’s a great place to visit. https://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/lodging.htm

I have been there, but it was about 35 years ago. It snowed on July 4th. I’m not sure about the camping, but the mountain itself is pretty awesome. When you see the size of the crater and realize that the eruption was so evenly displaced that the whole mountain just caved in on itself and left the peak of the mountain out there as the island, it’s pretty impressive.

    Order the good wine
