People fixate on those parts of the Bible that they like, and rationalize the rest away. Whichever verses reinforce their forgone conclusions are taken as primary, and anything that seems to contradict them are interpreted “in the context” of those primary verses.

So, the verses that a person quotes as authoritative tell us much more about that person than about the Bible.

Arguing doctrine based on the Bible is futile, because the church is the author of doctrine, and the Bible is just used to justify it (contrary to the church’s claims, of course).

It is wise to fear dangerous commitments.

I was not condoning beating those woman (I am mystified why they were stupid enough to think that it wouldn’t happen).

This is the post that I wish I could have written, but I’m not as well versed in the Bible as you are, and you can’t go wrong with the picture of Dawkins to top it off !!

I usually try and stay away from religious posts because I don’t really care, and I’m pretty ignorant about all the biblical details. I know enough and have experienced enough to realize that it doesn’t work for me. Anyways, from now on, I’m leaving ALL future religious commentary to you !!! You do a much better job at it then I.
