Hey oh so I work as a PLT tech or power limited technician doing alarm systems, video and access control. As we often work independently in the field I don’t run into too many others like me. So I’m wondering how many wire rats made it here?

Wired and installed my own CCTV. Does that count?

I can install and set up satellite service, both PPV and FTA.

I can fix or rebuild most computers but I don’t know how to set the clock on a VCR…

Certified Electronics Technician-Journeyman. Worked for a Motorola service shop for 15 years. Did about all of it in 2-way public and commercial communications. Had a real knack for building police cars and tower work but also installed 911 console systems and repaired portable radios. Enjoyed it until they replaced me with two young guys (cheaper). I am now semi-retired and drive a school bus (and happier for it).

I worked in industrial scales for 30 years. Lots of low voltage control circuits there. I was field service. In the Navy, I worked on CCTV. Glad to meet a fellow wire rat.

Hey Zerenity. I am low-voltage tech with 33 years doing fire alarm burg alarm, cctv, access control systems. I am currently a PM, but looking for a new gig because I report to an incompetent c~~~ who does not know s~~~. She never pulled a cable, wired a panel, etc., but somehow she is my boss.

If you're going through hell, keep going.
