If so how do you cope with your day to day life?

I’m really struggling with this at the moment. I’m full blown OCD (formal diagnosis) and have had it most of my life. It’s currently interfering with my ability to go to the gym.

Joined a gym earlier in the year and it didn’t bother me too much because they hand sanitizer and wipes available. It was also really close to home so i could shower in the comfort of my own home.

I’ve now moved and the gyms nearby are filthier than they need to be. They don’t even provide paper towels. Health and fitness is extremely important to me but i worry i’ll contract some horrible flesh eating disease.

You can overcome OCD if you really want to.

It’s all in the mind. If you are meant to die from some infection then it will happen. It doesn’t matter how many masks you wear.

Don’t let paranoia about stuff you can’t control affect your quality of life. Life is short.

    Enjoy.

Craigslist. Used bowflex. Used mountain bike plus indoor trainer for winter if needed. You have everything you need.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Yes, I’ve had OCD since i was a teenager. In fact an extreme and profound case of it. It’s an anxiety based disorder. You may be able to defeat some of the rituals by forcing yourself to break your own rules, and incrementally getting used to the “new norm”. I take medication because the underlying condition causing it, is severe anxiety. My case is so bad even medication barely helps.

Semi retired germaphobe here. It all started 20 years ago after nearly escaping a pervasive STD. Now I look at women as walking germ incubators. I never really got over it, I even push on glass doors instead of using the handles or I’ll cover my hand with my sleeve to use a handle. I Know for a fact that I avoid allot of the common sicknesses by avoiding the contamination all together.

I have an old WW II army instruction video. It says that before battle to scrub your body real clean in case you get hit it will minimize the chances of infection related complications. That alone spoke volumes to me!

I am no Germaphobe but I do the same with bathrooms. I have always wondered why is it that after I have just washed my hands that I must now pull on a s~~~stained door handle to get out of the bathroom? Cause I know damn well not everyone washes up after pinching off a big one… Who the f~~~ is running this insane asylum? Should not ALL bathrooms be pull open to enter, and push with closed fist, foot, or shoulder to get out so that your just washed hands can remain CLEAN?

No, really, what in the actual f~~~ is going on in this stupid clown show of an upside down world? May I speak to the asshole in charge please?

I can relate to that. My OCD had me literally housebound at one point. Managed to get over the worse with medication and CBT but it still dictates most of life. If you don’t ind me asking what medication do you take?

It’s somewhat comforting that you and Tower are concerned about this also. All my obsessions have a rational basis. Another thing that drives me ape s~~~ crazy is when people flush toilets (after a dump) with the lid up. Many public toilets down even have a f~~~ing lid.

I don’t know how OCD works, have only read a little about it, and have no personal experience of it. My gut reaction is to say just do your best to logic your way out of it. If it is something that seems to serve a solid statistical purpose, do not beat yourself up over it. However if it is something that goes too far just weigh it out and drop as much of the behavior as you can by trying to see it in the context of how it effects your life. You are going to die, that much is certain, at some point you just got to let go and relax into it… lol

That is the best I got man.

I take zoloft and zyprexa. Also yea i was completely housebound for 6 years as well. CBT only works to a certain point, as does the medication.

Yes, I have quite a regimen for avoiding illness .. honestly haven’t had a cold in years.

I always remind myself that there are three points that will introduce illness into my system .. eyes, nostrils and mouth.
Avoid touching these between hand washing.

I buy and carry the bigger 6″x8″ 62% ethyl alcohol hand-wipes in individual tear open packets and usually carry five or more in my pocket. As long as the alcohol concentration is 60% or more it should kill most bothersome bugs. I bring my own and never depend on an establishment to provide for me. I buy these big fold open wipes in boxes of 200 count tear packets .. at the auction sites online. These would be perfect for gym.

One of the dirtiest places, germ wise, for catching a really bad virus .. the notorious shopping cart handle. If I must use a shopping cart I use at least two of the big wipes on the center of a handle. Why? Because kids and infants sit backwards in shopping carts and spit regularly on these surfaces. Unfortunately, kids are great at spreading virus and are constantly coughing and sneezing as their parents lug them around the grocery store.

Along with washing hands often with soap and water, my own secret for keeping well in winter is a good supply of dark brown or black thin cotton gardening gloves. I carry them by the dozens in the car and usually stuff about four or five pair in my jackets and pockets. You can buy them in bulk almost anywhere. I use them for driving and they even look fairly dressy because they fit fairly tight.

Why all the gloves .. here is the ultimate secret! You can slip on a pair over contaminated hands when washing or disinfecting isn’t possible. You then have a clean outer surface with the germs temporarily covered. When you have time for hand washing or disinfecting .. slip off the clean outer protective gloves and wash your hands. It’s just as important to cove the unwashed hands to prevent the accidental face touch .. that one touch .. the difference between health and illness.

OK, in the gym .. adopt a two-fold glove strategy. To either prevent contamination of clean hands .. or also, to temporarily cover contaminated hands.
Not the dark cotton gloves I use for driving or shopping .. but some type of sleek and comfy sports glove .. or even some kind of carpenters/contractor form fitting glove which would look great lifting weights. Some of these gloves are really tight and beautiful with sure grip surface and have velcro wrist closures. They are available in almost all colors. Black, blue, red and even green or yellow. Hardware stores have them in spades.

Remember .. you can use the glove to cover a non washed hand as well as using it to prevent touching a contaminated surface prior to contamination.

Either way .. you are safe until you find soap and water. Carry about three or four pair so you can change gloves between various machines or locations. This greatly reduces the chance of contracting from one specific object. If you can’t avoid touching surfaces bare-handed during workout .. you can also use the glove in reverse method .. put on the “clean” sports gloves following your workout while leaving the gym and carrying your gym bag as a way to cover your hands. This will protect you from accidentally touching eyes, nose or mouth .. which is difficult to prevent otherwise .. until washing is possible. Any viruses you might pick up on or in your gloves will usually die off within 24 to 48 hours .. so you don’t really need to wash them each time you use them .. just let them sit a day or maybe two and they are basically safe to use all over again.

That vagina is a walking humidor/petri dish for yeast, bacteria and virii.

Probably the most dangerous place for a man living in america to put his johnson inside.

Your shopping cart comment made me think of something else.

Never use the shopping cart seat for groceries. Never.

Why? Because it is the s~~~ seat. That is why.

Respect, dude. I relate to almost everything you write so view you as a kindred spirit.

If it’s not too personal, has Zyprexa affected your weight? I was on it once before and developed a pot belly despite eating very little.

I have a unique metabolism that makes it hard for me to gain weight, but i have put on an extra 5 pounds since i started taking it. It increases my appetite I’ve noticed.

Couple of things I’ll do is either use my foot to open the door, or (and this happens 90% of the time) I’ll dry my hands, and crumple the paper towel up, and use the paper towel to open the door and then throw the towel away. I usually use my foot to flush toilets just because people p~~~ everywhere.
