I know relationships are hard, but I still think the advantages—with the right person—outweigh living the rest of my life alone.

I tend to disagree with Beverly, the author, on this one. I like living alone and see living with others as a distinct disadvantage. Agree to disagree ..

Relationships, for me, are impossible and just not worth it. Perish the thought.

Having an introverted leaning type of personality helps .. I usually can spend time, if absolutely necessary, converse and basically waste time .. with just about anyone. However, I look forward to no one’s company and really prefer working alone.
Later, tonight, I have some tweaking to do on this very notebook, a new SSD to install .. the total silence surrounding me .. as I work .. is worth gold. I see any close or intimate relationship .. as a boat anchor, a chore, an almost guaranteed road to unhappiness .. financial peril and .. absolutely not for me.

At 42 and separated, this article makes me sad. I already know most men my age are looking at women in their 30’s or 20’s, and they get them. So women in their 40’s and 50’s are overlooked.

Yep. That’s right lady. Why deal with worn out slags when I can still get the young ones while in my 40s? I just ended a fling with a 30 year old. My dad has been single for seemingly forever (like almost 20 years). Why, when there are so many great ladies out there? Because he is 80 years old but won’t look at a woman older than early middle-age. For obvious reasons, that approach hasn’t been successful. Its like he doesn’t seem to see women older than 50. Why he choose loneliness in this way, I’ll never understand. What a waste and a lonely life.

He sounds like a smart man to me. I wonder if she’ll ever realize that he’s probably learned his lesson and realized that he is just as happy on his own.

I am proud of being my age and being alone. I’m doing good and I got here by MYSELF. I didn’t have some piece of s~~~ leeching off of me who would later take credit for all of the good s~~~ I did on my own. I didn’t lose my house, kids, half my paycheck, and half of my pension for a nasty old woman. I can travel and do things that almost none of my friends can do.

Lonely? Hell no. I am a busy person and I have just enough friends to hang out with and I also enjoy having nights to myself.

Definitely. The reaction I get when I tell a guy I’m happy single and not looking is usually pretty positive other than a minority who seem to think not getting laid is like the worst thing ever.

The reaction I get when I tell a woman I’m happy single and not looking is always negative and involves insults…generally ranging from comments like “Are you gay?” to “With that attitude who would want to be with you.”
