I know I am probably going to get a lot of s~~~ for talking about anime but who cares.

When I was in middle school a lot of kids around me watched anime and played yu-gi-oh and a lot of other senseless drivel but it was ok because we were kids and we did kids stuff. Then as I grew to high school the whole anime thing became a niche. That was acceptable at the time. But that’s where it ended. Some people afterwards still loved it and no matter what insult where thrown at them they where comfortable with themselves and their hobby. These people where known as otakus.

For some it went really far and they became what many call weaboos. These people, usually middle schoolers to some in their early 30s where people that truly believed they lived in the anime worlds or that they had the powers of certain characters. Some truly believed they where the characters. Some where obsessed with japan along side the anime. The point I am making is they where obsessed. They didn’t know when to stop.

But enough rambling. Is anime and manga worth the time? To me if you have a lot of free time enough to read manga or light novels and watch anime you either have too much free time and should do something with your life.I am just kidding. I personally like watching anime and reading some manga every once in a while. Like when I’m having a s~~~ty day I put on some music and watch some anime or I will pick up a book. Let me be clear anime and manga aren’t for everyone. I am not pushing it on anyone. Some people it doesn’t click with. That’s all good. Some people they love it. It really boils down to personal wants. Some people who never checked it out pick up a manga and love it some don’t. One of my favorite mgtow youtubers Raging Golden Eagle speaks about topics concerning anime and stuff.

So if you want the answer it boils down to prefrence that’s it. Some people like it some don’t.
    Thanks

I see it as just another flavor of literature. I have a couple movies and a couple books which would be considered anime, but then I have hundreds of movies and thousands of books. As long as it’s good literature, there’s nothing wrong with it. But if you want nothing but anime/manga just because it’s feeding your Japan-obsession (like you mentioned some people do), then it’s not about good literature any more. It’s something else.

It depends on the genre and the series.

I can recommend a number of anime series that adults enjoy. The top two being, Black Lagoon and Cowboy Bebop.

    Akira (1988 VHS dub)
    Ghost In The Shell
    Blue Seed 1 – 26
    Ninja Scroll
    Pokémon Seasons 1, 2
    Gunsmith Cats
    Crying Freeman
    Mad Bull 34

Are all my Anime favorites. I discovered Anime in high school in early 2000 when my favorite, yet, former best friend introduced me Akira and Ghost In The Shell on VHS.

I doubt you will get any s~~~.
I love the stuff because it is unique. You don’t get the same tired, over-used stories that you see in western literature and TV. Many of the stories are quirky and engaging with a high degree of creativity. Many of them are failed attempts but at least they tried to be original. I got started when my kid’s insisted I watch Howls Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service. They were fun stories and something better than what American TV had to offer. Currently, I am watching Ajin on Netfix, since the 2nd season is out, and binge watched Sword Art Online.

Sailormoon’s pussy feels just like a fleshlight. I think they are made of the same material.

Sure, its better than a lot of western TV shows. When I was a kid I loved Dragon Ball Z. That was kind of a gate way to other stuff as I got older: Neon Genesis, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note. People who get obsessed about things have problems. It could be Anime, Star Trek, Harry Potter, whatever.

Im not a manga/anime fan, I don’t have the toys, I don’t know Japanese or care to learn it, I don’t go to anime conventions etc. but this is the list of what I would recommend to anyone who enjoys good action, story and characters to remember, wants to have a laugh and enjoy some bizarre s~~~. And everything in between.

Great animations/cinematography/work I think can be appreciated by anyone who enjoys cartoons/movies.

Great things were mention here already (Ghost in the Shell etc.), and what of my taste – Without spoiling the plots but may spoil the plot (unintentionally!), a quick rundown on very, very differing series and movies .

Akira – riots and gangs ruling the streets, while military experiment on psyonic children… it doesn’t get better for anyone involved.

Cyber City Oedo 808 – 3 series about 3 characters, criminals working for the police to shorten the sentence. Each story is unique. Hilarious with English dub !

Hellsing and Hellsing OVA – Dracula walks in to a bar, Nazi’s invade London, Crusaders purge what is left. The bloodiest f~~~ing thing that ever existed. Insane and hilarious. Complete genocide of London’s folk.

Gungrave – starts as a criminal series similar to Casino, Godfather, Scarface etc. friends having problems on the streets, joining mafia, shattered loyalty and hunger for more, after 5+ episodes series does complete 180* …and goes in to chaos of bio-weaponry and genetics. Greed and Power are unstoppable. Classic criminal/western last-stand to end it sweet. Poetic series.

The Wolf Brigade – Japan, internal Police and Spec-ops fight for government budget and power while the resistance fights back. Silent protagonist living his life, doing his work. Can’t say more without spoiling the plot. Bittersweet.

You mentioned Akira. I liked the original English dub, not the redone version.
