We all know, or at least have some perception, that America is changing rapidly just in the past 5 years or so. Like many of you I believe society has gotten a lot worse.

I want to talk about the concept of Selfishness for a moment. America unlike our European brothers was founded on the institution that the “singular man” was responsible for his own destiny unlike the European model which is more focused on the community, culture and creation of a strong… but not too strong central government that dictates most decisions. Hence what developed into modern day socialism.

Democracy Noted By Alexis de Tocqueville

Alexis de Tocqueville is a famous French philosopher who traveled to America in the 1830s to observe American Democracy in action. He published his findings in his book, Democracy in America. He noted that as a society becomes more affluent the worse social conditions become. I think he hit the nail on the head in regards to modern day society.

Tocqueville observed that social mechanisms have paradoxes, like in what later became known as the Tocqueville effect: “social frustration increases as social conditions improve”.[14] He wrote that this growing hatred of social privilege, as social conditions improve, leads to the state concentrating more power to itself.

Noting the rise of the industrial sector in the American economy, Tocqueville, some scholars have argued, also correctly predicted that an industrial aristocracy would rise from the ownership of labor. He warned that ‘…friends of democracy must keep an anxious eye peeled in this direction at all times’, observing that the route of industry was the gate by which a newfound wealthy class might potentially dominate, although he himself believed that an industrial aristocracy would differ from the formal aristocracy of the past. Furthermore, he foresaw the alienation and isolation that many have come to experience in modern life.

    History of Selfishness

I believe we are seeing these changes come full circle. America was founded on the Puritanical principals of working hard, taking resources through entrepreneurship or through force and the idea that no man should be forced to live under someone else’s rules/religion. The monarchies of Europe were no more in America and it was up to each their own to live according to their own heart’s content. American Democracy worked great up until the Industrial Revolution era.

The era of robber barons, JP Morgans, Andrew Carnegie, Rockefellers etc… proved that money and unregulated power over the masses resulted in corruption. Think of Standard Oil Monopoly or Andrew Carnegie calling in the Pinkerton Guards to kill the strikers. The wealthy industrialists of the time owned a Hunting and Fishing club near the town of Johnstown, PA. Part of their property was the upkeep of a dam that overlooked the city. They modified the dam to accomodate fishing and vacation homes. They failed to update the emergency spillways simply because they didn’t care. The dam burst and killed 2,000+ people. Andrew Carnegie and Henry Frick knew that lowering the dam was unsafe and did it anyway. The book The Jungle showcased the horrors of the meat packing industry at the turn of the century. If you fell into the vast you became chuck roast! No work stoppage. The USDA and FDA were born of this era as was the 8 hour work day. Unions kept large companies in check. However, over the years they too were known to be corrupt.

    Selfishness Today

Fast forward to our society today and what we have now seen is the typical American is only in it for themselves. Even 50-60 years ago we had a sense of community and structure in which we allowed ourselves to create our own destiny in. Religion (albeit both good and bad points can be made) has deteriorated, morals and ethics are not taught to young children anymore, our leaders only care about getting re-elected, whether it is the private or public sector contracts are awarded via cronyism, profits are at an all time high only because we outsource our labor costs overseas, we cut corners in productivity and slash jobs and benefits of the common worker. Debt is at an all time high, yet due to social media, the internet and a constant stream of advertising we continue to keep buying things to make us happy. The average American is not happy. We are poorly educated and have a lack of awareness about the world around us, have student and credit card debt up the arse, work 50+ hours a week, have a long commutes, have nagging and selfish spouses, very few close friends, few hobbies, no retirement, no healthcare and only really enjoy watching TV, jerking off to porn and eating fast food. We live vicariously though voyeurism of others via Facebook or through fake made up corporate holidays like “Mother’s Day”. Fourth of July is “BBQ Day!” Our existence is vapid and pointless. We no longer seek out meaning, connection or deeper understanding of ourselves and our world around us. The 24/hour news cycle is how we live now. One pointless overdrawn story and then to the next and the next and the next. We only consume.

We have become a society now where everyone is just trying to hold on and because of that we are told it is okay to be selfish. We have no sense of others and nobody plays by the unwritten rules of society anymore. I see it every day:

My Daily Selfish Observations I’m seeing:

    • Nobody uses their turn signals
    • People drive way too fast zig zagging in and out of traffic
    • People drive way too slow and think they are the only ones on the road
    • People litter on the sidewalks and highways
    • Nobody is on time
    • Nobody’s word really means anything
    • Everyone from Cable Repairmen to Doctors never keep appointments
    • Everyone is overbilled or gauged in just about every sector
    • Customer service is just a term now a days and means nothing
    • Nobody stands behind their warranties or products
    • Things are not built to last anymore because of labor and material costs savings
    • Things are built not to last anymore so you will buy more when it breaks (computers, TVs, cars, appliances)
    • Insurance is a giant scam and is never there for you when you actually need it
    • Cheating is acceptable, looked upon as the new norm and very rarely punished
    • Nobody holds the door open for anyone
    • Nobody knows or helps their neighbor
    • Nobody is cheerful and if they are it is often fake banter
    • Non-Disabled people park in handicapped parking spots
    • People don’t respect your time
    • Pedestrians will not move to the right in stores or on sidewalks
    • People will judge you, lie to you and stab you in the back in a heartbeat
    • Food is processed and full of ingredients to make you fat and unhealthy, for profit
    • Lobbyists can still influence politics and cram “pork” into bills that are not even read before voting
    • Illegals are allowed to destory neighborhoods and communities
Minrotiy groups have the biggest voice now. If you complain long enough via the media you can get your way despite what the general population wants
    • Complaining is the American way
    • People play loud obnoxious music at all hours regardless of others in building/traffic
    • Everyone is a special snowflake and can’t be criticized
    • Police use their power to make themselves feel strong (speeding tickets, brutality)
    • Consequently the dumbest people are often the most vocal and critical of others
    • All media is fake and all constantly spinning content to benefit themselves the most
    • Schools are full of liberal whiny idiots that constantly receive more and more tax money for education yet our kids are still some of the dumbest in the world.
    • Nobody is held accountable for their actions in business or personally
    • Those with the most money, power or looks can take or exploit others at any given time
    • We let our infrastructure crumble yet spend billions upon billions on failing social programs
    • We never clean up ghettos, or rehabilitate prisoners.
    • We have for profit prisons
    • We have closed a great deal of mental health facilities and let sick individuals roam our streets daily causing a huge influx of homeless.
    • No sense of culture or idenity other than consumerism
    • No appreciation for history, arts or creativity
    • Meaningless sports/Netflix TV shows rule conversation
    • Everyone is always in it for themselves and will jump at any new opportunity
    • We have short attention spans and always have to be entertained
    • We are glued to social media and the perception that our lives are amazing
    • Alcohol, Drug Use and Anti-depressants are being used at an all time high
    • Women in general, but some men too, dress like slobs/sluts or neglect hygiene
    • And the biggest selfish attribute on this planet… Women

Don’t get me wrong, with the celebration of the “self” comes a great society of thinkers, builders and entrepreneurs but I believe we are inching more and more towards a vapid, shallow and meaningless existence here in America because we have lost our connection to community and structure.

Is it really that hard to have a society of “Do what you say, Say what you mean”?

because we have lost our connection to community and structure.

You’re preaching to the quire, My community was lawfully evicted in 1974 and I’m stuck within a condemned, abandoned, and collapsing infrastructure, a 280 acre electrified forest with street signs.
    I know things are f~~~ed.

Not just in America. I see plenty of the type who fail to use their turn signals in Ontario too.

People my age ~25 and below, usually don’t care about anything except stupid stuff – like whats on TV, the latest trend, social justice cause or crap song by crap singer.

The music in some peoples vehicles is so loud, you can hear the frame of the vehicle rattling from the shockwaves. These same idiots will expect someone to pay for dealing with their future hearing loss.

And get this. When I was on my road trip. There were some areas that were 90kmh. Of course if you go the speed limit people will tailgate you until they get fed up and pass in a huff. So I was going 110kmh and I still had people running up behind me, passing and disappearing over the horizon.

You make many good points but this is an invitation to care about a society that sees us men as the problem. No thankyou.

By the sounds of it a violent decline is coming.

By the sounds of it a violent decline is coming.

I know this may sound horrible, but I wish it would just get here already. Being in a constant state of readiness for the violent decline is tiresome.

It’s like waiting for Rapture. You can believe in it for so long, then after a time you start to wonder if the whole thing is just a religious smoke screen.

The last thing I want to happen is that I get ready for the decline. Wait… Wait… Wait… Get tired of waiting and go back to life as “normal”, then when I get complacent the decline explodes into a riot of violence, of which I’m not prepared for.

Which reminds me… I need more range time and ammo.

Yup. Alexis was very influential with my thoughts on America and what was the genius of it. Then the french had to give us some damn statue of liberty and say we need to accept all da immigrants. I’m not anti-immigrant, I just think those who WANT to be American and believe in the American founding should be the ones immigrating here. We have too many people here hostile to the idea of liberty and our founding.

Hey Rennie, a good number of America’s revolutionaries were UNDER 25! They saw King George as an earthling telling martians how to live by earthly standards.

It’s repeating itself in the 70% of young men not binding themselves to big daddy government by the chains of marriage.

Collapse comes in steady increments until one day you look around you and see things have irrevocably changed. We’re in the collapse, but we steadily adapt and overcome until we’re the only ones standing, the collapse is going to devastate women, and the men legally bound to them, JUST AS WE SEE IT TODAY.

I think one of the more logical reasons for men to become MGTOW is not only simply to get away from crazy women but rather remove themselves from the stress of modern day civilization. It seems to be more a lose lose scenario with every passing day.

Especially when that civilization wishes you weren’t a part of it.
