Many great threads about Syria bombing 2.0 with insightful commentary have already appeared on this site, and to those who haven’t, I strongly suggest reading them (I also thought Tucker Carlson’s commentary on the event was excellent). This topic is not so much about Syria as American foreign policy in general. I don’t know whether the chemical attack happened at all, and if it did happen I don’t know who did it, and in the end I don’t think it matters anyway, because it’s frankly none of our business who kills who in Syria. So what’s the motive for American intervention?

I’ve read and heard several explanations, ranging from “it’s all about Israel” to “it’s all about oil,” and while I can’t say these are definitely incorrect, I’m also not convinced, and it appears somewhat pretentious to claim certain knowledge of an event which nearly everyone is lying about. Furthermore, American foreign policy seems too inconsistent to have a logical motive – we can’t even seem to decide who’s side we’re on. The one unifying factor however is that America thinks of itself as being the world’s police, and our supposed moral superiority gives us the right to interfere in every other country’s business. American is like the playground bully, who doesn’t have a clear motive or benefit in picking on the other kids, but does it anyway just because he can and because he wants everyone to know who’s in charge. That much is clear to me. Other factors may play a role, but I think that desperate need to show other countries who’s boss prevails over all else. That is America: the world’s bully.

I wish my country all the best, and I don’t want to see it collapse, but I must admit that America is an asshole.

We need to get back to basics. Thomas Jefferson had a great view on American foreign policy: War with no one and trade with everyone.

I feel the same way. USA is the playground bully. We’ve been doing it since the end of WWII. I’m ashamed of what USA did in Vietnam and the Mideast…and dropping the Atomic Bomb on Japan seemed unnecessarily s~~~ty as well.

I still love America, but I have mixed feelings about the effect USA has had on the world. I just wish we could get back to being an Isolationist country again. We have enough problems here at home, without having to go half way around the world looking for trouble.

Prior to World War 2 America was very isolationist. After WW2 it emerged a super power along with the USSR which previously was a collective of peasants.

Both sides benefited from captured German scientists.

America in particular is not run by American’s or the President.

In regards to the Middle East the plan seems to be to keep the region de-stablized virtually every Middle Eastern nation has had an uprising or all out war for decades now.

    Who could benefit from that?

Agreed, and I know someone will argue: Well we have to get involved! If we had gotten involved sooner in WWII we could have avoided the Pearl Harbor Attack.”

Of course that attack was precipitated precisely BECAUSE we were already involved. By cutting off Japan’s oil and rubber supplies we were guaranteed to be attacked.

Jefferson was wise indeed. If empire wannabe’s want to war amongst themselves and self destruct—let them. just don’t involve us. With two oceans and an armed populace we needn’t worry about attack.

I might also add that in May of 1941 the US DID commit an act of war. A US navy ensign flying aboard a PBY Catalina on patrol in the Atlantic REPORTED the position of the Bismarck to the British, facilitating her destruction. YUP an act of war.

There is a theory that America and the UK knew the Japanese were coming and were going to attack Pearl Harbor but as the President wanted to enter WW2 and Congress didn’t he needed a catalyst so they let it happen.

Don’t you think it is odd that all the ships were there except the aircraft carriers which they didn’t want to risk losing?

During Trump’s campaign he made a lot of references that indicated he wanted to return to being isolationist but I guess that was before he learned that the President doesn’t run the country.

    “America: The World’s Bully”

Bulls~~~. More like the U.S. government is the world’s greatest political whorehouse, with the U.S. population being the most exploited first world nation on Earth.

When the U.S. government does something it can usually be traced back to a foreign bribe or other form of payoff.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world treats the U.S. population personal wealth fund to raid.

Ironically, while the politicians have kept their urban welfare whores happy, while illegally dumping tens of millions of foreign invaders into the U.S., these policies have turned the rural and small town populations, whom had to suffer and pay for this mess, into a workers communist revolutionaries in all but name.

The elitists have done by accident and neglect what was once thought impossible. They have turned the American heartland into communists.

The hammer, sickle, and guns are coming, and these tools will be painted red, white, and blue.

If the workers of American to rise up and win, then you will find out what it is to bullied, because these workers will want back what the rest of the world has stolen from them, with lots and lots of interest on those debts.

Pete is spot on. We need to start practicing what the Founding Fathers preached. They were brilliant men, way ahead of their time and continuously warned future generations not to steer in the direction we’re currently drifting into. Truth be told, as much as I love this country, I also fear greatly and get anxious over the mess it’s in. We have many problems that need to be solved, which are overlooked in our society as too much of taboo subject to question or criticize, and given most of our politicians are bought and paid for this country is starting to solely exist for the wealthy elites and special interest groups who use their power and influence to screw everyone over.

The deep state at this point is rooted into our system just as much as gynocentrism. And Trump is definitely not our guy. He’s compromised and gave in. He couldn’t drain the swamp whatsoever — instead, he dived right into it!

I guess peace ships like the MERCY never have enough funding to do real humanitarian stuff. But OH so much for more Drone hardware. More wars. Etc.

I use to think we were the good guys. Hell I wanted to do nothing more then to go fight on the battle front.

How sad was it that the battlefront was in my own backyard. And I never could see it.

    Bulls~~~.

Peculiar, you call my claim bulls~~~, and then proceed to agree with it completely, as far as I can understand. All the things you described sound exactly like the actions of a bully. I must be missing something.

You speak as if I’m NOT an American worker. If the American workers “rise up and win” as you put it (which is out of the question without tanks and missiles), who exactly would be bullying me?

Foreigners control much of the U.S. government and use the U.S. government to commit actions so the U.S. gets the blame instead of said foreigners.

When you are in the position America is in, where it has global interests, a dominant military, and other things that cause it to leave a huge footprint, it ends up being left to clean up messes and try to prevent things. It will then go in, with the wisdom of the elite, and think it can manipulate things to get it to work. End result is that you have blowback from the cold war and a ton of other things going on, it has to account for. Due to the reaping of the whirlwind now, you can’t just withdraw.

Syria is a no win situation. It is a byproduct of the Arab Spring, and all you have is chaos and multiple factions who refuse to submit to one another. Russia has its own interests and America had some. Europe has others. Iran and Israel have others. No one really wants to be in there, but see an opportunity to tip things certain ways. America bet on certain things in there, and it enabled ISIS. Trump wants to withdraw, but then Syria likely did the chemical attack and says they didn’t. And it goes on and on and on. And sometimes, the truth is just on the surface.

I think the chemical attack never happened. Also think Trump would have stayed out of it if not all the pressure from the war mongers in the senate and press.

Who wins in a “chemical attack”,…..Assad? no he already knows the the west will respond in any kind of chemical attack. The rebels on the other hand have been on the have been getting beat back,…what better way to slow down Assad then a fake or one they did themselves Chemical attack.

Just like this situation in Syria. Think Trump would much rather spend time and energy on trade and the economy issues then having to play warrior.

You’re not the only one. Russia claims it was staged, and then there’s this. I wouldn’t be surprised if the attack were real, but I would be shocked if it were really Assad.
