I live off passive income paid monthly to a business than I own. It’s enough for me to live a middle class lifestyle. I’m in my mid 30’s.

I recently did my taxes, and now it blows my mind even more. How are people constantly broke? After taking all the lawful deductions my accountant could find (thanks good accountant and US tax code), I wonder if I should apply for SNAP, I did technically get to the income requirements for it. In reality, my income is right around the average US household income.

I don’t understand. I live in a huge house (approx. 3000 sq ft) in an expensive metropolitan area. Half of my house is rented out so my out of pocket after paying the mortgage, taxes, utilities, and insurance is right around $1,000/month. In about 12 years when the mortgage is paid off I can choose to just live here for free. I go out to dinner almost every day. I have a maid service come in weekly to clean my house. I have six figures in equity, and five figures in savings, that grows every month. I have no debt. No student loans. Credit cards get paid in full every month. If I want to buy something, I don’t hesitate and think about it, I just buy it.

I went on two trips last year. This year I’m planning one more and I’m planning on jumping around South America for a few months. Couple years ago I jumped around Europe. Then Asia before that.

I have friends that make 3x and 4x what I make, yet they are constantly broke. Then I realized oh it’s because they’re married. Their wives are useless parasites that at best, contribute 1/4 of what they actually consume. Here are some breakdowns for comparison:

    Student Loans:
    Mine: $0
Their wives: $700/month. Not even counting theirs

    Day to Day Background Entertainment:
Mine: $0. YouTube, library, and twitch are free.
Their Wives: $200/month for cable/Netflix/Hulu/whatever. Husband is too busy working to watch it.

    Food:
Me: Groceries. $150/month (covers breakfast and lunch). Going out to eat every night. $400/month.
Wife: Groceries. $500/month in overpriced buzzword food that quietly ends up in the trash. $500/month in the husband bringing home takeout every week night. $500/month in “date night”.

    Clothes:
    Me: $250/year, tops.
Wife: Do I really need to explain?

    Interior Decorating:
Me: $200/year if I happen to stumble upon something cool I like. Sure I wont hesitate to buy that cool $100 painting or whatever.
    Wife: LOL.

    Travelling:
Me: Last year around $1,500. This year around $7,000
Wife: Already blew past that with her required twice a year long weekend trips to Disney. Throw in another $10,000 in a week long summer trip and a week long winter trip. Of course she refuses to stay in anything less than a 4 star “because she doesn’t feel safe” or eat anywhere less than $20/plate “because she doesn’t want to get sick” and/or “we’re on vacation”. As if the applebee’s back home is worse than the applebee’s in the other large American city you’re in.

I could go on, but why.

I’ve really come to realize, you really do not need a lot of money to live alone. I literally make 1/5 of what some of my married friends make, yet I’m the one with the most money. They are literally one pay check away from bankruptcy, while if I had a $5,000 or even $10,000 emergency, I’d barely do more than shrug, sigh, and pay. An amount that a friend of mine actually told me might actually drive them to suicide. Seriously?

Saving Money has LESS to do with how much you make, but more about how much you DON’T spend.

It’s common to see celebrities and professional athletes that have made and SPENT tens of millions of dollars during their careers to be filing bankruptcy once their well dries up.

Your AVERAGE person will Spend more then they make regardless of their income, and regardless of their needs. Debt has become a way of life to the point that we are individually rated with a ‘credit score” as a measure in how well we manage it.

The bible is right that when you marry, you get a bunch more worldly problems to deal with.

Don’t do it. Once you know their real nature, it really drops your desire to have sex with them.

Because its all just an act to get to your resources. Once you sign the one-sided contract, with everyone smiling around you because they know you are screwed if you do, and you are the only person in that church or room who doesn’t know you are getting lifetime f~~~ed right there,

Their good behavior is all just an act.

It’s not real. Its manipulation. To get their husbank.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Same here, my monk lifestyle allows me to live like a king. I work hard for my money and I don’t make a lot, but it’s enough to pay the bills. It is easy for me to save up for whatever I want. I feel like a rich man, though I am not.

The only problem I have is that I’m an aging concrete mason, and can’t do this type of work forever. I need to transition into less physical demanding work.

It’s amazing how so many problems disappear by choosing to live single. Good topic Averageman55 and stay free.
