If they did the same thing here in the United States the court system would be backed up for many years. Some of the cases would probably never be heard because it would take OVER 5 to get to the case. Many men would resort to the unthinkable. Let’s just say there would be many women that would eventually turn up missing and never be seen or heard from again. Sorry but that would be the reality of it.

In the end one fact remains the same. Women don’t marry men for their money. They divorce them for it.

In the US alimony payments stopped being deductible by the payer and is no longer income to the payee. That’s if your divorce was settled after 2018. And if you renegotiate an old divorce under the new rules it becomes subject to the new rules.

Something tells me that the IRS is tired of chasing down their money from the ex-wife who doesn’t understand how to make an estimated payment and ends up going to file her taxes only to find out that she owes $10k in taxes. But the money was already spent on that cool vacation she took that she bragged on Facebook about for a month. AND not only does she owe $10k in back taxes, but she also owes another $10k on THIS YEAR’s income. So she’s getting a double hit in her mind.

If you are the IRS you have two choices: Go after a petulant child that already spent the money or just make the responsible one pay the tax by not giving him the deduction. Seems like a pretty simple decision.
