Advice please: Selling my work online

So the semester has just ended and one of my professors has encouraged me to do something. Our final project for the class was to arrange a piano piece for guitar. When I turned mine end, he told me that my arrangement was better than even the professional arrangements he has seen of the piece and he enthusiastically told me that I should publish it. Over the summer, I think I’ll make more arrangements if my internship doesn’t take up much time.

How should I go about selling this? I can create a PDF of the arrangement(s) but I’m not sure how to deliver and sell it. Should I set up a PayPal account? Do you know any good services for delivery and sell of a digital good like a PDF?

Copyright isn’t an issue since the music I am transcribing is old and has gone into the public domain. As far as advertising goes, I can make a recording of my arrangement and upload it to YouTube. A link can be placed in the description text box to whatever I end up using to sell my arrangement(s). In addition to that, I have a few connections that could suggest my arrangements to their guitar students and colleagues.

Even if you give it away it adds value and recognition to your name, while opening more doors in your future. Just being productive and doing productive things unilaterally opens hidden opportunities.

You can’t f~~~ it up when you’re a MGHOW, that’s just one of the absolute laws of nature!

Sounds very promising. Good for you! I can certainly advise on that with a more detailed schematic of what’s involved. I will DEFINITELY follow up with more in an email to you by the end of day, but my afternoon is full so I will leave you with this basic outline for now. Short version is ….

1. You’ll buy a dot-whatever (like tigaksheetmusic.com) for a few bucks.

2. You can get a basic online web location for it about $60 a year + a contact email at that domain .

3. Best bet is to accept credit cards AND paypal. Paypal because many have it and prefer and the transaction takes place over there. So at least open an account. Credit cards can do the same in a slick way but I will have to explain further. Just dont’ worry about it.

4. You set up a “landing page” for the product which showcases what it’s about, screenshots and that sort of thing. Talking about your product(s)

5. You put a “buy it now” by credit card – and – a “buy it now” paypal button under your product.

6. The customer “buys” it… transaction takes place at PayPal or the other credit card mechanism

7. The “success” (transaction ID ) message lands them back on your product page revealing a “download it now” link for them to get it right away.

There’s more but those are the broad strokes. I will send an email with some more options / details and you can get back on that at your convenience. We can even create the entire thing for you if it’s intimidating or you want it done for you. More later.

Finding out where your target audience goes to buy the same/similar would be a good start.

A basic website is fairly easy to set up but i’d also look at other avenues to sell online also.

Thank you. I should be able to resume work on my Mgtow song soon and you will get to hear that when $aver and I finish it and post it in a thread.

Thank you for the reply. That is something I am considering. Giving free music could help me establish my “brand”.

Hey TigaK. As an extension of this thread, you’re timing was excellent because you were asking the week just before our screensavers were released, but we have them set up now so you can check it out. It uses exactly the method I detailed in that email I sent you.

Awesome. For now, I’m thinking of using WordPress in order to keep my expenses low. It seems to have everything I would need and apparently is easy to use with PayPal. Your information really helped me understand what I was looking at as I was researching the topic.
