I like the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, and this is one of my favorite scenes:

I’m currently reading the book (which is different from the movie). Chris Gardner (the main character in the movie) had a horrible relationship with his abusive stepfather. In spite of that, he was able to change his life and give his son a better future.

I don’t understand why my American society is hell bent on preventing fathers from spending time with their kids. The same society that preaches about tolerance is intolerant toward divorced men/single dads. I imagine that there would be a dramatic decrease in juvenile delinquency if kids spent more time with their real dads and gained some words of wisdom.

Personally, there were several moments during my childhood when my dad told me the importance of being an honest and responsible person. Because he valued the concept of honesty so much, it was hard for me to lie to him.

"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)

Yeah I really liked that movie. Love movies with positive father-son relationships and male mentor relationships.

Every piece of fatherly advice should be “Everything I’ve ever taught you is a lie. I was tricked. Run son! Run to the hills!”
