I have been seeing this phenomenon since the mid 90’s, when privately owned commercial TV started to reach every household here in Germany, and women were more and more brainwashed into being unhappy about themselves.
Of course, the advertising industry pulled “every trick in the book” to make people buy new products even in markets that were completely saturated.
This constantly unhappy and aggressive face was a rare occurrence back in the 70’s and 80’s.
But I talked about that to my friends for years now, and I was astonished by the fact, that this apparent observation had not been scientifically researched yet.
Good to find out that I wasn’t the only person on the planet that had noticed this change.
In my opinion, 70-80 percent of women more or less have this “RBF” type of face.
To me, the origin of this “phenomenon” is clear. Because even those women of my generation that didn’t have an “RBF” back then, do now.
So, I personally don’t think it is genetic or evolutionary.
As the old saying goes: “Beauty lies within”, it is rather the non-presence of internal beauty that shows on the outside.
The less inner values these women have, the sooner it shows on their face.
Nobody in the press will – of course – ever dare to speak that out loud.
But the lives of these women are so dull, free of hobbies and interests that their neuronal networks (also managing face mimics) are starting to degenerate, or stopped to develop at an early age.
Playing with the smartphone 24/7 has doctors running rampant against the development of “stiffend necks”. People will soon run around with a permanent “forward bend” of their head.
So for me, this “Resting Bitch Face” is a type of degeneration.
People without empathy, manners, flexibility, curiosity, interests, love, ambitions and emotions seem to get such a face. And I also know men with that face, that perfectly fit this description.
Just the way your car gets bugs on the windshield when driving extremely fast. Every one can see it…
Women raised as protected “princesses”, kept away from the “evil outside world”, never had the need to use their face muscles. To me, their faces look like that of young children. Even at age 25.
And I can’t think of them as pretty.
Staring at their cellphone 24/7 seems to amplify this effect. All face muscles become tension-less and so “everything is hanging down”, resembling the appearance to the outside world “of being in a bad mood” or “not to care”.
And over time, this face becomes “the standard” on these persons.
And the funny thing is: These women are like that in reality.
That is why middle aged women get it even worse. The internal frustrations add to that and make them look like ugly predators, no matter how much chemical s~~~ “Fake-up” they put on. . So what is your opinion or research on this?

I have to admit that I personally find something disturbingly appealing in RBF on a subconscious level. It’s like seeing a child scared lost and cold – you want to comfort and help her. It the weirdest feeling. I consciously know this is red flag, but at the same time it’s like a challenge – you want to try to conquer this unapproachable queen and melt her cold heart. Maybe this doesn’t necessarily apply to all types of RBF, but more to fragile bitches who look like they looked the death in the eye, like they survived a concentration camp or something. I don’t know how to describe this.
RBF is the outward manifestation of a woman’s inner disdain for everyone and everything around her. In years past, social mores meant women hid that disdain. These days, when anything and everything a women does is either lauded, applauded, or excused away, women no longer have to pretend.
Women are born solipsists or near enough to make no difference. They act and believe as if nothing beyond themselves truly exists. When reality informs them daily that they are not the centers of creation, women cannot help exhibit their disgust.

I try not to make too much out of her particular expression. Probably because I don’t smile much myself, which doesn’t mean I’m not happy. I simply don’t smile when it isn’t warranted for the most part.
That said though, I find that typically with RBF, there is usually something minor that’s bothering them. Something they should be control, yet don’t for whatever reason. Like the spare do-nut in the breakroom that someone else should have eaten so they aren’t tempted. Or because her daughter won’t behave, even though she never put the hammer down.
I will also add that the always smiling woman annoys the hell out of me more. She’s the passive aggressive type that wants everyone to think she’s an angel, and will do her best to sabotage you if you don’t do what she wants.
