    Hello, fellow brothers!

I am having some issues with my kart engine, the engine is stalling when the choker is pulled to the minimum, and when it is pulled to the maximum, the engine starts to rev too much (to the point of starting to run). Engines are something I am a bit new about, but setting up my chassis is not an issue, at least not anymore.

Thing is, I had made a mistake while driving it at an empty lot here in my city, where I lost the rear and the kart crashed the left front and rear wheels to the curb. I already fixed the damage to the wheels (no damage to the axles and chassis though, to my relief), but the engine is acting up like that since I crashed.

The engine is a Fortex 13hp 4t stationary engine, adapted to karts (we have a whole championship of those in my country), which is pretty much a Honda GX390 engine, but modified with a centrifugal clutch.

Anyone has some tips and tricks to help me solve that? I haven’t found any online brochures, nor manuals, for those engines, so I am a little lost in this one.

Thanks in advance, for all the answers!

Maybe start at the carburetor. The idle adjustment might need tweaking. Your crash could have stirred up some debris in the float bowl messing with the fuel delivery. Not sure what you mean it won’t run well at full choke or no choke.
I have that same Honda engine on my pressure washer. It’s rock solid and always runs like a champ. Starts easy too… but no matter how hot or cold, I never have to use the choke.

Thanks, brother! I will start by the carbs then… I was watching some videos about carb tunning, and I think it might be a small aluminium rod that connects the throttle lever to the funnel, that may have been damaged with the impact.

What I meant by “not running well” is that if I leave it at no choke, the engine dies. It is like if no fuel (or air) was being delivered, so in order to keep it working, I have to apply some choke to it, at all times!

When I apply full choke to it, the engine is revving so high, that it is like if I applied full throttle to it. Previously, when I applied full choke, the engine revved a little higher than iddle, but not as much as it is now.

The engine is one hell of a tough fighter, like you said bro. Until I crashed, it ran like a charm, I just needed to fuel it, change the oil and keep running. But now, the iddling and choking is messy. I have to find a solution, before the engine breaks.

Check for loose vacuum lines or fuel lines. Fuel pump ?

fuel, spark and air…. nearly always to blame… one of those three

saw a weed whacker doing what you’re describing.

hope you get it driving, sounds like fun
