A Woman's Happiness: Why Should I Care?

Throughout the 20th Century, women have complained about the rights and privileges of men. They demanded the same rights and privileges (without demanding to be drafted in an army and fight for their countries and rights, by the way) so they could have equal social status.

Now that we are in the 21st Century, many social changes have enabled women to have more rights and better lifestyles—particularly in the USA. Although many women are still suffering in Asian and African countries, the overall worldwide societal changes have been nicer to women.

Here in the USA, many women outnumber men in universities. More women are in the workforce—and many of them work in safer environments than men. Women with low incomes get free government benefits if they get pregnant (food, healthcare, housing). They have a variety of birth control pills and devices to delay pregnancies so they can focus on their academic/career goals. And if they do get pregnant, they can drop the baby off at the nearest fire station without any penalties (men do not have the privilege of giving up custody when they are forced into fatherhood by a family court judge). Women have had the right to vote since 1920—and millions of them DON’T vote.

Consider this: millions of women (probably 30 million) thought it was more important to do something else than to vote for a presidential candidate, such as Hillary Clinton, or a new law that would have an effect on their communities in 2016. Can that be blamed on a patriarchy?

To me, the government benefits pregnant women get (in the USA) makes up for the so-called wage gap between them and working men. Very few men will have dinner and entertainment at a woman’s expense when they are dating. Men are going to save women and children first if they’re on a sinking ship. Men (mostly men) are going to die to protect nations if an invading army crosses their borders.

Many 21st Century American women have college degrees and good job opportunities. They will be getting better salaries in the future. They get free government benefits/grants and free dinner/gifts/entertainment from generous men that date them. There are many birth control products made for them. They are not responsible for 18 years of child support payments if they give up custody of their babies. Most family courts are fair to them when they file for divorce while the majority of divorced men are responsible for child support/alimony payments. They are able to live free, independent lives in a nation (and a world) that increasingly panders to their well-being.

So what’s the reason for this speech at this event?
