I lost two cousins at Antietam and one at Gettysburg out of the four that served in the Palmetto Rifle Regiment. To me, that flag represents American Heritage, not slavery. Most of the ship captains that brought slaves here were northerners. And as for the KKK’s hijacking of that flag, they hijacked the cross they used to burn in front of people’s houses, too. When I see that flag I think of rebels against the mainstream, something I’ve always been. Everything from “Hell no, we won’t go” to voting for Trump. I understand black people being sensitive about that flag, but I also understand people who want their opinions to be law. My opinion is just as valuable as anyone else’s. It’s like feminists who think men’s rights are misogynistic and patriarchal. People like that don’t want to see the bigger picture because they can’t see themselves in it. It’s just more of the me,me,me,I,I,I, mentality.
