We were discussing this elsewhere and wanted a straight answer. It was about a character in a book who was a pathologist.
If person goes to med school, earns a MD , and wants to be a forensic pathologist (autopsy, cause of death, defensive wounds, police science, etc)
Do they still do the 1st general year of residency where they learn the basics?
Can they still call themselves a physician?
Do they hold a state medical license?
Can they work on live people? prescribe drugs, put in simple stiches, etc. It might not be smart but can they legally do it?
Thanks.

Here in Spain YES.
Here they get the primary doctor license and then they do MIR test and if their score band is enough they can choose the specialty “forensics”
The first year they do 24 hours duty like all other trainees in emergency room.
And yes they have license to prescribe medications and treat wounds.
But that’s here in Spain.
To those following me, be careful, I just farted. Men those beans are killers.
They are a physician with state licensure. They are qualified to work on the living [stitches/drug Rx/etc — though many of them won’t prescribe meds by choice]. It’s usually a 4 year residency after 4 years of medical school. A forensic pathologist is typically fellowship trained another 1-2 years beyond their residency.

In Norway the answer to all of your questions would be yes.
