A couple weeks before last Christmas I was involved in a car wreck that totaled both vehicles. I just had a few bruises because I wore my seatbelt and the airbag helped. I’m in very good physical condition or I would not have walked away from it. The other driver had serious injuries and wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. It was determined he was completely at fault. I just got my settlement last week. I didn’t discuss the case with anybody but my attorney. The other driver has made a full recovery. I’m happy for him. I had to help the medics pull him out of the vehicle because he was trapped and bloody.
I had another car I could drive but I needed to replace the totaled vehicle. I go to a dealership where I bought the last vehicle and picked out a similar vehicle that just got totaled. I paid for it with a personal check like I did last time. Everything seemed cool just like last time. I drive it off the lot and go get coffee about 3 blocks away. I sit in the coffee shop and check my email and look at some of the topics on this site. I come out after an hour and the vehicle doesn’t start. I walk to the dealership and tell them what happened. They seemed cool about it and said they would see what was wrong. I got p~~~ed they kept me waiting. So I pick up the phone at the dealerships landline and I call my bank and put out a stop payment on the check. I know the number by heart because it’s the only bank I’ve had. They were not aware who I was on the phone with. The salesman took me home in his car and said they would contact me tomorrow to tell what was wrong with it.
For three days they kept leaving me voicemails saying there was nothing wrong and that I could go ahead and pick it up. Yeah right. On the fourth day I got an email of the dishonored check. They were threatening legal action and all I did was laugh at them. I replied to them that were very much out of their league when it came to this kind of thing. I told them they were dealing with the wrong person and were way over their head. I finally told them that if they would have tried this on me less than 10 years ago the check would not have been the only thing I would have cancelled. That’s when they realized I wasn’t f~~~ing around and had me sign a title release form. The last words they said to me were “OK tough guy. You win’. I have since bought a car from a private owner. Hope it doesn’t happen as much as I think. Assholes
Yep not surprised. Finding a good dealership is like finding a good Northstar Engine….gonna take awhile

Anonymous7Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there a three day lemon law that means that with in 3 days you can return a car, with no questions asked (if you wish).
Sure is but they never tell you about the lemon law. They just hope the buyer is not aware of it. Dickheads.
Managing to get a car dealer to say, “OK tough guy. You win.” would be pretty satisfying, I think. I’ve never bought a new car, but I did buy my (now ex-) wife a used car from one because she just “HAD” to have a car NOW!! (Even though she wasn’t employed) and I have occasionally had to visit dealers for recalls, to buy parts, etc. I can’t stand them. One claimed that a used car had never been in a serious wreck, but they weren’t smart enough to remove paperwork from the glovebox that showed the car had been hit a ditch and rolled over and been subsequently repaired — new passenger-side doors and quarter panels, repaired roof — and it still wasn’t right! One actually tried to sell me a NEW CAR when I’d only called to inquire about a part for my current (21 year-old) vehicle. Another claimed that my valve covers were leaking (they weren’t) and my struts were shot (they were fine) and quoted me $4,400 for the work they wanted to do. (Tip: don’t try to scam an engineer who fixes his own cars!)
I’m glad you got out of the wreck relatively unhurt.
