    John Mayer is a true MGTOW hero. His music uniquely resonates with people on a spiritual level. I imagine there are a few fans of John Mayer on MGTOW.com already.
    As is further detailed in Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday, John had to completely withdraw not only from the media and the civilized world, but from women as well. He fell down the well the way many of did before realizing we were MGTOW’s.

    From a Rolling Stone interview in 2012 –

    Some time after the latest awful episode, he’s downing a few Old-Fashioneds at a Los Angeles beautiful-people watering hole. Resplendent in a black-leather slant-zip jacket, obscure Japanese kicks and insanely expensive vintage Rolex, he’s charging forward in his typical hyperbolic Mayerian way, saying stuff like “Blowing me off is the new sucking me off!” and “This is the death of rock & roll!” suggest that maybe he’s exaggerating, and he takes deep umbrage, jackknifing his long body forward. “No, man, and after that happens eight, nine times, I’d rather just go home and RedTube, good night. I’m serious.”
    And he looks serious, too. So maybe that really is his situation, despite who he is. Sure, lots of people don’t like him and his music, too poppy, too sensitive, his head is too big, he uses the word “meta” too often. But his guitar chops, especially in the bluesy area, are unquestionably great, and he can count Eric Clapton among his admirers.

    John may not have decalred himself a MGTOW, but he fit the archetype perfectly. After retreating to a solitary life in Montana (as every MGTOW wishes they could), he came to terms with himself as a human and a musician. In doing so, he enabled himself to move lightyears past his early days as a musician. He battled himself and eschewed his personality. In a 2015 interview he called himself a “Recovered Ego Addict”. It takes a serious refelction and reinvention period to be able to come out and say that on an NBC interview.
    John’s public image may be tiresome and exhausting to some. But those some people have a fixed mindset and never wanted him to evolve from the fame-thirsty kid who sang “Your Body is a Wonderland”. He is now touring with the Grateful Dead, in place of the late Jerry Garcia. The crazy thing is, even true-blue Dead Heads struggle to effectively satire him. There are few musicians who would consider trying to fill the void of a god-like figure such as Garcia – in one of the greatest touring acts of all-time. John knew that cult-like following would be ruthless of his performance, and it surely fueled fueled his day-to-day diligence as a MGTOW in who-knows-where Montana. Through honest self-reflection and then diligent self-improvement, he allowed himself to become the musician that his former self never would have been.
    Had he gone on vainly trying to write hits that topped charts and wrenched girls hearts, he’d probably still be an easily exploitable target in tabloid magazines. But the tabloids can’t touch him now; he did his homework. The role that he grinded for and now finds himself in (for the long-haul) is an indisputable vindication of his career as a musician. Let this be a valuable case study of what the MGTOW life can do, if you take yourself seriously.
    The decision to go MGTOW is inherently honorable. It is a serious statement of self-ownership. It is critical to remember though – how you use the time and space you create for yourself is entirely up to you.

    He really plays guitar? Huh… I always thought of him as just a pop singer who was with Taylor Swift or someone (not a big incentive to listen to him). Well, my bad for judging the man, I’ll give him a listen.

    You’re right, there would have been no reason for him to “declare” himself as part of the MGTOW movement. From what I understand, MGTOW as an organized concept didn’t have much momentum in 2012 anyway. Still marinating in the concept myself.

    I’ll plug stuff I find useful. “What’s needed for men” could be anything for anyone. If someone else likes something I post or link to, then it’s whats needed for them.

    I like his music, talented artist. Reminds me of the Aussie artist John Butler sometimes.

    Both good entertainers, and as with most artists, I like some of their work more than others.

    It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of John’s music. I’m so glad you posted a link to this cover though – one of his best live performances for sure. And yes, definitely similar to John Butler. I’m a fan of his stuff as well.

    Love that. He definitely had a MGTOW phase in his life of about 3 years. It’s different for everyone I suppose, John just used the general ideology to take his life from great to amazing.

    Took me a while to really get into his music, Ive been listening to his album TRY for years. One of the many parts of my playlist.

    I need to check out his other stuff, he rocks!
