A hotel made of ice is a clever tourist attraction – but the idea came about almost by accident

The annual unveiling of the latest Icehotel in the far north of Sweden, deep in the Arctic Circle, has become an event in its own right. The spectacular structure – half hotel, half art exhibit – is built from scratch, from just ice and snow, every year, and features individual rooms and suites carved by artists, designers and architects from across the globe. More than 30,000 guests sleep in the -5 degrees celcius rooms each winter. Then, as April arrives and the freezing temperatures give way to the Arctic Circle’s interpretation of summer, the hotel melts away back into the Torne River from which the ice came.

Freezing my ass off the whole time. Must be a Euro thing. After a day out doing in the cold, I want a hot shower, hot tub, fireplace, warm floors, and the like. Sure as hell don’t want to be looking at an ice block to be sleeping on.

It’s extremely popular believe it or not! You have to read about it to understand what kind of experience this is about! I would never consider going to that ice sculpture hotel but it’s quite a work of art. It melts every year and they rebuild / redesign a brand new one when the cold sets in!

I’ve watched a number of TV shows over the years about the Ice Hotel they make. It’s really quite interesting, they bring in artists from all over the world to decorate and theme each room in the hotel.

I read that even while the icehotel is standing ( not melted and open for business) they will go in each iceroom and fix any damage with a bag filled with hot water. Thank You for your very positive post KevinStyles.
