    Hey guys, it’s me again.

The show I want to review today is “Mayoi Neko Overrun!” It’s a harem/slice of life/comedy show about a guy (Takumi) who spends his days with his adoptive family, which is headed up by Otome, a buxom older sister figure. The female main character (Fumino) is an over-the-top Tsundere type, which means she pretends to hate the one she likes, and treats him like crap and heaps verbal and physical abuse on him. This is portrayed all through the show as normal and acceptable. Here’s the synopsis from myanimelist.net:

A heart warming love comedy. Tsuzuki Takumi is a high school boy, who is running a [cake shop] called “Stray Cats” with his sister-in-law Otome. Otome is an extremely good-natured person and is always running around to help people. One day she brings home a runaway girl Kiriya Nozomi. Nozomi’s closed mind gradually opens to them as she works as a pâtissière at Stray Cats.

Nozomi is a girl who acts like a cat, and has extremely-well-honed mental and physical skills, though she is naive. She is the only one of the lead characters who is in touch with her own motivations. She is learning how to stand up for herself throughout the show, and one of the funniest moments of the show is where Fumino advises Nozomi “It’s best to be honest about your feelings”, as if she actually knew what those words meant. LOL

There is a third girl involved, Chise, who is LOADED. As in, her family is the main benefactor to the school all four attend, and they are major arms manufacturers. Think Northrop Grumman or Lockheed Martin. She goes nowhere without her two maids, who offer her advice and assistance at all turns. She is cute and insecure and very possessive of Takumi.

These three girls vie for Takumi’s attention in their different ways, and Takumi is portrayed as a mere object (in the famous “objects are acted upon” sense). He develops no sense of agency throughout the show, and I start thinking toward the end (it’s only 12 episodes long, with a review episode 13) that he deserves the ass-kickings (and head-kickings) he’s constantly getting from Fumino. He should be going for the money, but he’s too stupid and awkward to even accept Chise’s advances.

All in all, this show is fun to watch and examine as an example of why Japanese men are leading the world in MGTOW. Not necessarily in a good way, either.

Here’s a fun clip from one of the better episodes: Mayoi Neko Overrun : Meowwww

NICE. I need to get back into Harem anyway.

The boy sounds like an even lamer clone of Ikari Shinji, but without the awesome giant ass kicking robots.

So is this anime targeted at boys (shonen) or girls (shojo)? I understand the the accepted wisdom is harem anime and manga are targeted at male audiences, but sometimes I wonder. The audience for The Bachelor in the west is mostly female after all, and that’s basically harem reality television.

All in all, this show is fun to watch and examine as an example of why Japanese men are leading the world in MGTOW

Possibly because they refuse to be like this Takumi guy.
