For someone with the right frame of mind, a military career is a good choice. (Full disclosure: I have a tendency to smart mouth authority, so that ain’t me.)

Keep in mind that the greatest military minds muff the play once in a while. (Examples follow.) The difference is, General and Admiral Genius fly home in air conditioned comfort, while thee and me stay behind to cover their withdrawal. (No not retreat — that’s a forbidden word — withdrawal is the word to use, to their faces at least.)

If you join up, I recommend you angle for a job that is absolutely essential to the rear echelons. Like fixing the HQ computers.

The military is not for everyone. It’s a different way of life. How it differs from other jobs depends on your country. Some countries have unionized armed forces, so I suspect that would be a lot different than being in the US military.

I’m in the Canadian military. Like anything, it has its pros and cons. Overall, I would not recommend it to anyone though.

I know nothing about the military so admittedly I’m not really qualified to speak.

However I’d advise young men against a career in the services because from what I see most wars are about throwing men into the meat grinder so politicians can become rich and leave behind a legacy.

Soon this person may be ordering the US military and I personally would not be prepared to die in a middle eastern hell hole just so she can go down in history as some kind of hero.

PS. Thanks for the link to the 1812 video RoyDal. That was really interesting – I went to Belgium for the 200th anniversary of Waterloo and have since become a bit of a Napoleon nut.

I am Soldier-Medic and I approve this message.

In my opinion, war is the most unnatural state.

The Buddha had the opinion that an educated man was a superior man.  In his day and age, an educated man served in the government where he de facto served the people.

Be the superior man in education and wisdom.  Program time in you life to serve others.

    Make money, not war.
