There was a story posted here about a guy who got cheated out of some property he bought in Thailand. It might be better to rent a place. Get as much advice from expats who made mistakes, and best wishes to you. And tell me how those massage parlors are when you get there!

Oh yeah definitely rent.Plus the nice thing is- Thai apartments come furnished!!!
Look at this video…150 a month!!!!!!

Thailand is awesome, was over in Phuket in June, seriously considering making a move to SE Asia. The Thai have crazy rules about foreigners owning property, so yeah, be careful. But what a place, food, weather, people, scenery, culture and the PRICES! Holees~~~, you could live like a king for a year on $20000. Can’t wait to get back.

    $5598?
That’ll cover the cost of hiring 2D artists for my cartoon project.

Thats a great way to do it, Beer. I also intend to reinvest some of the dividends continually during retirement. I just bought 100 more KMI shares which ups my monthly dividend by $16 bucks.

Should start a thread on this, some of us mgtow are looking forward to leaving this gynocentric hellhole.

I would love to. Not sure how popular it would be though…it might go to the 2nd page in the same day and die with just 4-5 responses.

Do you seriously think I should create one? Because I’ll do it- I love talking about this kind of stuff. Just want to makes sure there is enough interest.

I’ve been toying with this idea as well. I figure I’d need 2-3m to retire early(hopefully 40-45 range) and stay in the states without having to worry about running out of money and still being able to enjoy myself, or a million and spend most of my time over seas. There are plenty of countries where a 1,000 usd a month budget lets you live a pretty upper class life style.

The beauty of it is if I bank 1,000,000 and I make 50k a year returns after taxes, but I’m over seas living like a king on 20k a year, I’d still be adding more to my retirement savings while retired than a lot of people my age would be adding to theirs while working still.

I think I’d definitely go the rental route if I do this in the future. I’d be able to check out different countries every year or few years. I’d just rent an apartment for a year, maybe stay on an extended “vacation” for 10 month out of the year, and come back home for a month or two for the holidays and to remind myself what a s~~~ hole this country is turning into, then I’d travel to my next destination where exotic beaches, top tier restaurants, and hot young legal prostitutes that are cleaner than most American whores await me!

So a couple of things- first of all, you’ve discovered an AMAZING concept known as Geographic Arbitrage. This is something most people NEVER realize.

Geographic Arbitrage is the practice of earning money in a strong currency (like the US Dollar, British Pound) and spending it in a weak economy (seen in developing countries like Thailand, Vietnam, etc.).

Effectively, what this does is it drastically increases the value you get for each dollar spent. In the U.S., you could buy 1 ice cream for 5 dollars. In Thailand, you could buy 10 ice creams for 5 dollars. Basically, each dollar goes MUCH further in a weaker economy than in the U.S. And that is what leads to a much higher class lifestyle overseas.

I am curious though: why do you say you need $3M to retire in the U.S.? You can live comfortably at 50K in many parts of the country. A 4% Safe Withdrawal rate on $3M will give you $120K/year for life- which is luxurious, but unnecessary right?

You take that 50K to Thailand and you WILL be a king. Beachfront house. Eating out every day. Golf every day. Money is no object!

Renting and traveling sounds good to me- best part is in S.E. Asia, most of the rentals come furnished with all the appliances like fridges and stuff. So you NEVER have to worry about moving your stuff from one place to the next. They also come with maid service I think which is pretty cool.

HOW WAS IT?! Please give me details! I really want to go.

How much time did you spend there? Did you backpack?
Based on the research I’ve done on Thailand, you cannot OWN property as a foreigner. If you marry a Thai girl, you have to buy the property in her name (yeah…not gonna happen).

BUT, you can LEASE a property for 99 years….so it will see you out. I mean, who really cares about their property once they are dead you know?

You can get a pretty damn good HOUSE on the ocean with luxury furnishing for $50,000. This is a 99 year lease.

I once went on a date with a wench back in the early 90s. She categorically stated up front w/in the first 20 minutes of our first and only date that she would take nothing less than a $10,000 ring. Oh yeah, she was a complete bitch too. I’ve always wondered who the moron was that ponied up 10K to win that harpy. She was dead serious about it too.

I’ve made it nearly 50 years w/o buying an engagement ring. I’m one lucky SOB. You could buy a really nice reissue Historic Gibson Les Paul at full boat retail for that kind of money.
