More than half of all women workers claim to have been victims of sexual harassment, union bosses said yesterday.

The Trades Union Congress said a survey showed 52 per cent have suffered harassment at work because of their sex – and called for a string of laws and rights to protect workers.

The findings were backed by the Confederation of British Industry, which said there should be ‘zero tolerance’ for harassment.

However, critics were sceptical about the TUC claims, saying the bulk of incidents reported in the survey were trivial and long ago – and that the most common response to such incidents was ‘embarrassment’.

They accused union leaders of ‘playing into the victim culture’ and of unfairness to male workers.

The research, carried out by YouGov, used answers from 1,533 women who told pollsters they were willing to take part.

It said 52 per cent had suffered from some kind of sexual harassment at work. Almost a third had been subjected to unwelcome sexual jokes, 28 per cent had received sexual comments about their body or clothes, and one in five had experienced unwanted verbal advances.

The majority of incidents occurred more than a year before the survey was carried out in January.

The main kind of sexual harassment reported – ‘hearing colleagues making comments of a sexual nature about another woman or women in general’ – had been experienced by 39 per cent of those polled. But only 11 per cent said it had happened in the past year.

One in five women had experienced unwanted sexual advances, but only 3 per cent said this had happened in the past 12 months. Most of those who said they experienced harassment appeared to feel it was of minor importance. Of those who said it had an impact on them, the most common response – from a fifth of those polled – was that it had embarrassed them.

A tenth said it had made them change work habits, for example by avoiding some places or times, and around one in 14 said it made them less confident. One in seven incidents were away from offices, workshops or factories – occurring on occasions such as conferences or work Christmas parties.

The TUC said just under one in ten women reported seeing displays of pornographic material. Only one in 100 said this was in the past year, with most reports going back decades. It added: ‘One respondent reported that in her experience the workplace culture was changing … “When I started work, porn in the workplace was considered normal, but things have changed and I haven’t seen porn in the workplace for 20 years or more”.’

Frances O’Grady, TUC general secretary, said: ‘Let’s be clear – sexual harassment is undermining, humiliating and can have a huge effect on mental health.

‘Victims are often left feeling ashamed and frightened … Employers must be clear they have a zero-tolerance attitude to sexual harassment and treat any complaint seriously.’

The organisation demanded a string of reforms to employment law, including paid ‘facility time’ for union equality officers, and slashing of tribunal fees.

But economist Ruth Lea of the Arbuthnot Banking Group said: ‘Genuine harassment of employees for any reason is appalling and should be stopped. But I dismiss the results of this survey.

‘I have worked in the City and Whitehall for 35 years and sexual harassment has been barely an issue … there is ribaldry in the City, but it is not personal.

‘The idea that 52 per cent of women have suffered sexual harassment is absurd. The TUC’s thinking is dated and irrelevant.’

Kathy Gyngell, co-editor of the Conservative Woman website, said: ‘The TUC is playing into the victim culture … at the same time they are deeply unfair to men.’

So basically anything a man says within ear shot of a woman is sexual harassment.

And people question if c~~~s have a victim mentality..

As more men relentlessly ignore laydeez, this attack on freedom of speech will fail.

"It seems like there's times a body gets struck down so low, there ain't a power on earth that can ever bring him up again. Seems like something inside dies so he don't even want to get up again. But he does."

Haha they whine if nobody talks to them, they whine if somebody does talk to them.

It is impossible to run a functional society with women. Just doesn’t work, can’t work. They are hardwired to muck everything up and make everything about them at all times.

UK women can’t even be bothered to bathe daily.

Successfully fought off an attempted rape by vicious/aggressive woman = sexual harassment.

Dosen’t like the professor in college, because of problems unrelated to her = sexual harassment. I actually heard about a fat girl who was threatening to do this in college.

Cutting through all the BS , this is the real motive for the union’s ‘concern’.

It is just a matter of time before ignoring a woman at work is considered sexual harassment as well.

Strange times are these in which we live when old and young are taught falsehoods in school. And the person that dares to tell the truth is called at once a lunatic and a fool. -Plato

I work in a factory environment. It is 100% men except in the office and lab. So I guess 100% of the men are Sexually Harassed if ‘making a comment of a sexual nature’ is harassment. Most of the time it’s more than once an hour. I think it’s funny. They KNOW not to do it around women. It’s all in good fun. When somebody makes a personal comment about me, I dish it right back.

A reasonable person can figure this out. It’s one of two things.

    1. The UK is some post apocalyptic hellscape run my bands of raving marauders bent on eating your children and then raping you…

    OR

    2. Women are a bunch of melodramatic c~~~s who think anything and everything constitutes rape including the f~~~ing air conditioning.

Now, guess which one it is?

Feminism is a movement where opinions are presented as facts and emotions are presented as evidence.

Everyone gets harassed at work. That’s why it’s work. Even I get harassed at work, and I own the company. Nobody gets paid to be coddled.

Only women would decide it’s “sexual” harassment.

Exactly, can’t claim things we say are sexual harassment, when we simply, don’t speak to them.

An interesting and, given the topic, oddly balanced article. Given the topic and outlet, you’d expect the usual feminazi screed.

The article is a good one to examine how organizations like the TUC deliberately misuse statistics to further their agendas. You always have to look behind the numbers, much like with the feminazis 1 in 5 “rape” claim.

The TUC’s headline is so scary, right? 52% sexually harassed, it’s an epidemic! Wrong.

The UK has 64 million people. The TUC interviewed 1533 of them.

Next, the people they interviewed chose to be interviewed. The people answering the poll were already motivated to say something about sexual harassment. That’s a huge confirmation bias built right into the poll from the start.

Next, they expanded the time the poll covered. It didn’t ask about the last year or even the last decade. It asked about harassment that had ever occurred. They expanded the “net” in order to catch more of the answers they wanted.

Now look at the results again keeping in mind the confirmation bias and deliberately extended time period..

While 39% said they’d experienced the main (or real) type of sexual harassment, only 11% said it occurred in the last year.

Ten percent said they’d seen porn on the job, but only ONE percent in the last year.

Twenty percent got hit on, but only THREE percent in the last year. (Of course, pick up lines from co-workers are only harassment when the c~~~ in question doesn’t say “Yes”)

All the other numbers are much the same. The polled people who wanted to report workplace sexual harassment, gave them a reporting window decades deep, and provided the usual vague and broad categories. Then, despite cooking the books as much as they could, the TUC could only scare up a harassment rate of 52%.

So, why all the effort to lie about a crisis? Tuneout already told us: More union officials on the payroll and fewer disciplinary cases going to neutral tribunals.

Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.

    Still laughing.
-you look at a woman= sexual harassment
-you hold a door for a woman = sexual harassment
-you disagree with a woman= sexual harassment
-you make more money= sexual harassment
-you ask for help = sexual harrasement
-you compliment a woman = sexual harassment

I heard that feminists believe all men are rapists and beasts of burden. I too am surprised that this number is not 90-100%.
    Don’t you love the drama?
