    The Internet says their are 3.5 million truck drivers in the US.

    What will happen to them once self driving trucks show up?

    Trucks that can drive 24/7 with no required rest stop/ potty breaks/ sick days.

    Send them to college to retrain them? Kick their ads to the curb?

    If you think your job can’t be outsourced / automated, guess again.

    from driving trucks in the past myself, I don’t think you can program trucks to do all the turning and backing up properly. there still will be jobs doing that. But long haul on interstates can be automated pretty easily
    driving trucks is actually a pretty sad job and it’s bad for your health. so I won’t feel any resentment when they’ll program trucks to do the driving

    I work in the automation industry – it will be women losing too, big time – already have.
    Receptionists and operators have already been replaced by computers.
    We just installed a robot line that makes cakes for Walmart – replaced 40 women.
    These robot lines need machinists, welders, electricians, programmers, engineers –

      all men type jobs

    Women will lose out more in the robot revolution.

    Urge MGTOW readers to go into skilled trades (electricians) – tons of work available.

    As a truck driver, I see this as a possibility in the future, not within the next 20 years, but further down the road. Hell, remember when they thought we would have space colonies on the moon in 2001? Yep, back in the 60’s and 70’s the year 2000 was supposed to be a future utopia with flying cars and all that.

    I’m not so concerned with the technology, I’m concerned with the legal implications and red tape that will follow. If a driver causes an accident, then they are fined, given a ticket, and fired usually. What about these computers? What will be the legal ramifications of something breaking down? Will the trucking company sue the maker of the truck? Not to mention the cost of outfitting an entire fleet of semis with this technology. It will happen, just later down the line. Kind of like with airplane pilots, the plane can fly itself, the pilot can too but their main job is to fix problems when things go wrong.

    There will also need to be someone that can fix and maintain these things and someone to blame in case of malfunction. It might be more lucrative to blame a driver for now, so long as uncle sam gets his money. I think it will happen, but there are plenty of variables and other things to consider like how will the truck be unloaded? How will the truck refuel itself? And so on.

    Men will overcome this problem, become a technician or a computer guy to fix this s~~~. Women will be hit worse by the next wave of technological progress.

    Autonomous trucks. The government will need to improve infrastructure.

    In US the roads suck. My tesla does all it can considering how crappie the roads are.

    What will happen to them once self driving trucks show up?

    I think it is extremely premature to speculate on self driving vehicles for a few key reasons.
    The first being that computers as they are now semi conductor based electronic machines are not that powerful. It is possible for a computer to use sensors to operate a vehicle to determine facts about the enviroment. However the machine simply cannot act creatively or outside of the scope of its programing. If their is any situation that occurs that the computer is not directly and carefully programed for it cannot act. Making a program that can do that is extremely complex and it would have to be quite comprehensive. One must also take into account the computation requirements of something like this. You would need around something like 30 of these assuming you program the machine right.

    There is also the issue that currently the only role computers play in cars is driver aids. Things like ABS and Electronic Stability Control are pretty much the total of what modern cars have in terms of computer based driver aids. There really doesn’t exist things that control the car to save the driver in an emergency. This does create kind of a gap since there isn’t too much leading up to the driver less car. So do think there are grounds to be somewhat skeptical.

    However this doesn’t apply to a computer which is far more powerful. But the moment something like that exists we are all f~~~ed.
