Just curious, how did everyone do on their return for 2018. I certainly got reamed. Significantly smaller return than 2017. wtf Trump. talk about bunch of bulls~~~. It’s truly disgusting. I wonder how many single mothers I fed and clothed in 2018?
God bless peace and freedom.
It depends on which state you live in as if you will benefit from the Trump tax cut. Basically, the Trump tax cut stopped a number of more populace socialists states from using tax deductions to have the rest of the nation subsidize their socialist in-state government programs by capping SALT (State and local taxes) deductions at $10,000 dollars, but the SALT deductions now apply to all U.S. citizens.

You are certainly more informed than I am. But, a quick search on the net appears that returns are less this year across the board.

Just how stupid most people are, thanks to public schools not teaching them properly, or even parents not knowing.
Bigger tax returns are not better, the government kept that money from you interest free all year.

My tax return was indeed lower. Under the old tax system I usually get back about 3,000 a year. This year I only got back 1,500 so my return is lower. However, I get paid bi-weekly and I saw an increase in my net take home of 100 dollars per pay. So adding 2600 to the tax return puts me at 4100. So if my math is correct, Trump’s tax plan enabled me to keep 1,100 more dollars of my money in 2018. We’ll see what 2019 brings in.

Not only did you keep more, but the extra you kept during the year may have earned some interest.

Ended up having to pay a little less this year. Know that there’s a ton of waste, but it’s worth it to live in this country.
We just don't realize life's most significant events while they're happening. Back then, I thought, "Well, there'll be other days". I didn't realize that that was the only day. - "Moonlight" Graham
I do my best not to let the government have a free loan…..that’s what a big check back from the IRS is….a interest free loan from all of us….the taxpayers

From a CPA in the middle of tax season, you and the article have it 100% correct. People complaining of lower refunds have forgot how their net pay went up, in I think February.
Lower tax rates, higher take home pay. I tell them to add it up for last year and this year, and compare their tax rates. Unless you make significant bucks, 500K, I guarantee your tax rate went down.

some people are ignorant c~~~s who make assumptions and can’t talk without getting personal.
1. realized that had a salary change and thus tax bracket. didn’t factor the difference between the two years.
2. this link
So if you didn’t adjust your withholding (more on how to do that in a minute), there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that you likely got bigger paychecks in 2018. The bad news is that the odds of getting a smaller refund or having to pay when you file your return went up.
This is the case for most workers, according to Isberg. ADP data shows that the number of withholding allowances claimed per employee stayed fairly constant from 2017 to 2018. That means most employees didn’t adjust their withholding. For example, only about 1% of Home Depot employees adjusted the number of their withholding allowances in 2018. Under the new withholding tables, employees who didn’t make a change to their 2018 withholding could be surprised by lower refunds than they’re expecting … or by having to send in a check to the IRS with their return for the first time.God bless peace and freedom.

I didn’t want to divulge anything here like that, but the problem is that I had a large salary increase and change in brackets. other factors like deductions also. So, of course, it p~~~es me off that I get rewarded for my hard work with larger chunk taken out. That is all.
God bless peace and freedom.
Unfortunately that is our tax system. The harder you work and the money you make the more the government will take from you in taxes. That is why the flat tax is what we need. Everyone pays the same percentage.

TTWi’d be ok with flat tax. one can only hope, but i’m not holding my breath.

It doesn’t help when the media probably put out 10 articles putting a bad spin on it for every article that could actually be bothered to mention its your effective tax rate that matters, not your tax return. I don’t know what you’d call it other than fake news.
Never ever get an income tax return. Like already stated why let the Federal government use your money for free months on end. Next year be smarter about your pay and taxes and don’t blame Trump for not keeping up with it.

Meh.
I’m Canadian so “my” taxes work out slightly different.
I have paid single tax rates since I started working.
In 37 years I have received 4 “returns” despite being able to claim married for 7 of those 37 years, and having an additional 16 years of “equivalent to married” (as I could claim my daughter).
That’s 4 “refunds” in 23 years of paying single but claiming a “dependent” meaning that for 19 years I broke even.
In the remaining 14 years I paid single, yet owed additional taxes every year due to non refundable tax credits actually decreasing (17% down to 15%), while the claimable expenses limits increased before you can actually claim those expenses.
What is really f~~~ed, is despite decreasing my income by 2/3, and increasing my taxes deducted from source voluntarily, I still end up owing additional taxes because I dont have anything to claim/deduct. My “nominal tax rate is “only” 32%.
The only change personally is that my “status” finally went from divorced to single after 20 frikkin years.
This year (2018) I “only” owe an additional $5k
2017 I “only” had to pay an additional $8k
2016 I “only” had to pay an additional $16k
2015 I “only” had to pay an additional $10kI’m just waiting for the “How much did you earn, send half” tax rate to officially be announced.
There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it
t depends on which state you live in as if you will benefit from the Trump tax cut.
Which is bulls~~~ which punishes Conservatives who live in blue states California, New York and New Jersey while being blue since 92 have a good number of Conservatives in them especially the ones away from the major Cities which Trumps bill still punishes. But the ultimate fact is that Trump’s tax cut was Socialism for the rich and f~~~ing the poor (while increasing taxes on the poor in about 7 to 8 years).
Basically, the Trump tax cut stopped a number of more populace socialists states from using tax deductions
The so called Socialist states (aka Blue states) already put an increased output of taxes to the Federal Government then they receive and Red states are far more likely to be leeches or Welfare queens. So California is the one paying for North Dakota not the other way around under this bill us in Blue states subsidize the lazy welfare queens even more then we did before.
Now onto the next guy.
The good news is that you likely got bigger paychecks in 2018. The bad news is that the odds of getting a smaller refund or having to pay when you file your return went up.
Untrue as Reganomics (what the Trump tax cut is based on) does not increase the checks of the average Worker rather those really rich (to any real degree so the Workers are not the ones better off). When you cut taxes on the rich you incentivise them to just hoard more of their money rather then forcing them to put it into the Business or pay a higher tax rate.
And paychecks overall for the average Worker have been going down since the 80’s with the introduction of Reganomic Policies along with free trade and the death of Unions. And finally just the next guy.
Unfortunately that is our tax system. The harder you work and the money you make the more the government will take from you in taxes. That is why the flat tax is what we need. Everyone pays the same percentage.
I get the idea but it is a bad one in my opinion and to get a reasonable tax rate on the rich without strangling the poor would be impossible under a flat rate (besides the idea of paying more in taxes with the increased ability to pay is logical). When there is not enough tax revenue taken in what happens is an increased deficit and national debt occur to which Republicans will try to argue to cut the Social programs but not the Military (the programs which benefit the Citizens get the axe while the war machine continues on).
Just an east coast asshole who likes to curse, If you get offended by words like fuck, cunt, shit, piss, bitch or any racial slurs then you just scroll down.
This thread would have been a lot better with logical comments and opinions instead of emotional opinions.
Sounds like a bunch of ignorant welfare queens here who get p~~~y when they are introduced to facts.appreciate the feeback from the gentlemen who are keeping this civil. It always amazes me that in a forum of men, there are still pussies out there that act like little girls. well, lesson learned.
God bless peace and freedom.
