Every time you have a strong opinion about a woman, check it by asking yourself if the opinion is rooted in sexist ideas that have been perpetuated throughout your education. In general, don’t comment on her appearance, even if you think it’s a good comment: women suffer an incredible amount of social pressure about our bodies. When we, women, deviate from the mold that society determines, we tend to receive harsh criticism:
If you weigh more than a small road car, this isn’t sexism or a social construct its a f~~~ing disease, it science and it works bitches.
5. Use your privilege for the right cause.
Unfortunately, every time a woman points out a sexist attitude (like the fact that your mom is always the one in charge of preparing everything for a family meal), she’s considered to be exaggerating (what are you saying, woman!) or even rude (you’re so rigid!). What if you used your privilege for something more positive, like pointing out these sexist attitudes to other men and getting on the side of the woman?
My mother is incapable of performing within a workplace, my father is not. Thus my Father assumes the role of earning money and my mother does the domestic work. Because she is for one better at it and it balances the work load across two people rather than one. This isn’t sexism this is common f~~~ing sense and this really goes to show how far sexism is being stretched. It is less about pointing out a problem but rather prescribing a narrow window of acceptable behavior. Thus making it an insidious form of manipulation.
One of the main issues of sexism is that we have culturally silenced women, and given men full control of the microphone for far too long. The first step to supporting feminism is to listen to what women have to say about their own oppression. So get comfortable and listen up.
Yes, women are totally oppressed or have been oppressed in any meaningful way in the past. Says the group of people who made every effort to avoid military service.(Delaying suffrage to avoid the draft and killing the ERA.) A group of people who consume the lion share of tax revenue but pay almost nothing into the system. Says the group of people who can rob a man of half or more of everything he has owned. Accuse men collectively of discrimination on the basis of average earning and pseudoscience of pay discrimination. Says the group of people who a free to promote stereotypes and bigotry without challenge and complain when someone confronts them. Says a group of people who openly use discrimination and sexism to their benefit. You have never been oppressed go to hell f~~~ing cry bullies.
