    Just watched it here:

The point is that everything boils down to biology.

My take on it, but first some facts:

    Steps:
1.Lust – This is the first stage of love and is driven by the sex hormones testosterone and oestrogen – in both men and women.

2.Attraction – The second stage is when you lie to yourself and believe that you are truly love-struck and can think of little else. Scientists think that three main neurotransmitters are involved in this stage; adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin.

3.Attachment – Attachment is the bond that keeps couples together long enough for them to have and raise children. Scientists think there might be two major hormones involved in this feeling of attachment; oxytocin and vasopressin.

    ***

It seems to be that vasopressin synergizes with testosterone, and much more in men than women resulting in behaviors such as; promoting aggression, territorial competition and dominance with others (males). It bonds the mate (in this case much more strongly: males) to mates and children. It also promotes partner recognition, sexual arousal, courtship behavior, monogamy, pair bonding and mate guarding. Vasopressin also improves cognitive ability by enhancing memory. It allows one to feel separate, with dampened emotional responses and more “sensible” or “reasonable” behavior. [Depressed people also have higher vasopressin.]

And conversely, oxytocin (synergized with oestrogen) physically facilitates childbirth and nursing for women. Personality wise, oxytocin promotes touching, affection and bonding. It promotes “nesting“; monogamy and pair bonding; the nurturing, acceptance and protection of offspring. It influences mate selection [hypergamy].

So, love is very different between men and women, and that’s why there’s great confusion, especially amongst men, about what a woman loves. The nature of hypergamy is instinctual and cannot be influenced outside of chemical inhibitors/enhancers. Only strict societal guidelines can direct it, as shown through how society operated though the past centuries.
