The best cannons in practicality are those that make every bullet count, and with technology like Point Detonate Delay, they don’t just penetrate, they deliver the same explosive air-burst as a grenade with much better accuracy.

Scaring the enemy with a high volume of bullets is great, but in the end achieving victory with minimal ammunition wastage for as many consecutive battles as possible (without having to run back and restock) makes a practical and winning design. M1A1 or A2 was one of my favorite tanks for a long while, until I realized it had horrible gas mileage as the price for a jet engine to keep it tactical until you were up close. Give me a tank that can cross the lower 48 United States on a single refill. Also the hot exhaust made it difficult in urban combat to use the rear of the tank for cover.
